Physics Applications in Real Life

Every day you apply a physics concept to survive. From the time you wake up and go on with your daily activities, you interact with physics in one way or another. Physics applications make life easier on earth by allowing you to carry out various tasks.

Physics concepts like sound, friction, heat, force, pressure, electromagnetism, among others, are applicable in daily lives. Also, the technology used in various industries works through physics principles. It allows machines to operate and produce the desired products and services. Therefore, without physics, life would be difficult.

It is necessary to study physics in school because it helps you gain knowledge and skills in life. It allows you to apply the various principles you learn in school.  Therefore, study well in physics and, when you face challenges in the subject, enroll for physics tuition.

Daily Life Physics Applications

1. Walking

When you go to school to study, physics helps you to walk. The resistance between your shoes and the ground makes you not to slip. The friction between the sole of your shoes and the ground surface helps you walk in a stable state.

However, if you step on a banana peel or anything slippery while walking, you fall. This is because the friction between your shoe sole and the surface of the earth becomes less. As a result, the grip decreases, and hence you slide on the ground.

Therefore, resistance is a physics application that aids you to walk without falling to the ground. It is an application that we interact with each day as you walk from one point to another.

2. Safety belt

Have you ever asked yourself why you tie your seat belt once you get into the car? What makes you remain in the same position even when the vehicle collides? It is physics principles. When you tighten your seat belt, inertia controls your body.

Inertia is the unwillingness of a body to change its state of rest. Your body remains at rest when affected by an external force. The physics application allows you not to move forward even when your car collides with another.

Car seat-belts were introduced to reduce the extent of harm in case a car has an accident. Therefore, it is crucial to tighten your belt as you travel to the school to be safe when your school bus collides.

3. Washing machine

Imagine you dry your school uniform in the dryer using physics. The centrifugal force allows the machine to take away the water molecules in the clothes. As the washing machine rotates rapidly, it applies centrifugal force on the wet clothes.

As the machine spins, the centrifugal force is applied away from the centre. Consequently, the water molecules on the clothes are thrown away.

The physics applications make life easy and especially during the cold seasons when clothes cannot dry in the sun. It allows you to go to school while clean and with dry clothes.

4. Steam iron

When going to school, you iron your clothes to look smart. If you use a steam iron, it is physics that allows you to iron your clothes. The steam iron uses a lot of physics principles to function accordingly. The main physics application in ironing is heat in thermodynamics.

While ironing, heat transfers from a warmer surface to a colder one. This makes your clothes to straighten up and look smart. The physics you learn at school helps you to iron your uniform. It is interesting.

The soleplate of the steam iron also becomes warm through physics. When you connect it to electricity, the electric current heats the water in the iron box that warms the soleplate. Therefore, you cannot ignore the importance of physics in your daily life.

5. Ballpoint pen

What allows you to write down physics notes at school using your ballpoint pen? If physics was not there, it could be challenging to use the pen. The force of gravity makes it simple for you. It makes your ballpoint pen work.

When you turn your pen down to write on a paper, the force of gravity causes the ink to move down to the top of the ball. As a result, the ink transfers to your writing paper. Physics makes writing easy.

Also, to hold your pen well, physics application is evident. The friction between your hand and the ballpoint pen allows you to hold the pen comfortably. That is why if you have oily or sweaty hands, your pen slides while writing. This is because resistance becomes less.

6. Alarm Clock

People set alarm clocks to wake them up at the right time. The alarm rings because of physics. The sound from the alarm clock is something you cannot see but, you can hear it. In physics classes, you study the origin and properties of sound.

Through the physics application, you can hear the alarm ring. This is because sound travels from one point to another. Therefore, when the alarm rings, its sound travels from the clock to your ears.

Also, the distance between you and the alarm clock affects how you will hear the alarm. If the alarm clock is near, the sound will be higher than when the clock is far. Imagine physics wakes you up.

7. Cutting fruits, vegetables, and food items

You eat fruits, vegetables, and other food items to remain healthy. When your body is functioning well, you can study physics and perform well. But what helps you to cut the fruits and vegetables to be edible? It is a physics concept.

When you place the fruit on a chopping board to cut it, you apply pressure on your knife to cut it into pieces. The more pressure you put on the knife, the easier it becomes to cut.

The physics application makes the work in the kitchen easier. Also, it makes food tastier. Imagine eating a pineapple without peeling eat? It can be difficult because of the small thorns on the peel but physics makes it simple.

8. Camera lens

When you go for school holidays, you are likely to go for a vacation with your family or friends. You can also enjoy a nature walk on weekends to refresh. During such moments you use your camera to take a ‘Selfie’ for memories.

Your camera works due to Optics in Physics. The physics application helps the convex lenses to provide the camera with an image outside the camera.

The lenses filter and focus light to hit the sensor in your camera to have a quality photo. Therefore, without physics, you cannot take photographs to keep memories. The power of physics applies to the use of a camera.

9. Handling the door

How do you open your door? Do you know physics applies to how you handle your door? Torque, also known as the moment of a force, affects the effort used to open a door.

The torque of a force depends on the magnitude of the force and the perpendicular distance between you and the door hinge. Therefore, the far you are from the door hinge, the larger the torque.

To open the door with less effort, be farther away from the hinge. It will allow you to have a greater torque than when near.

10. Use of earphones

Music brings life. Mostly, you listen to music once you are tired of studying physics to relax. You put on your earphones or headphones to listen to your favorite songs. Physics helps to move the music sound from the source to your headphones.

The physics applications behind the power of headphones are magnetism and sound waves. Once you connect your earphones to an electric source, the magnet in them creates an electric field. Once an electric field is produced it brings out sound waves.

The sound waves allow you to hear the music. That is why if your headphones or earphones have a problem, you cannot hear music through them. This is because they cannot create an electric field.

11. Circulatory system

Your circulatory system functions because of physics. It allows your blood to flow in your body, and thus you remain healthy. Boyle’s Law is the physics application behind blood circulation in your heart.

Once your heart muscles contract, the volume inside reduces, causing high pressure in the region. As a result, blood moves out of the arteries.

On the other hand, when the heart relaxes, the volume increases, creating a low pressure that sucks blood from the veins. Physics makes your heart function 24/7 without stopping. It allows the flow of oxygenated and deoxygenated blood correctly.

The contribution of physics in your daily life cannot be ignored. Physics applications come in handy each day and help you to live on earth. To understand the daily-life physics applications, you need to be attentive in class and attend O-Level physics tuition to learn more. It will help you to understand the world around you. Also, it improves your problem-solving skills in daily life.
