Mr Sim has made physics a lot clearer for me and I actually find it to be quite enjoyable thanks to him!
He always challenges us by giving us higher order questions and this has helped to expose me to a variety of questions.
The notes provided are also very concise and useful for exam revision. I would definitely recommend The Physics Cafe to my friends because
I feel that I have personally benefitted and they can too. Kelsey Goh, RI
I joined The Physics Cafe in November in J1.
At that time, I didn't really understand the concepts and just did questions by using a formula which I thought would be appropriate.
Even for topics like kinematics, which we have done since Sec 3, I didn't understand what I was supposed to do and when to apply the correct formula.
I joined the class for the November revision lesson for all J1 topics and I was really thankful that I did because I learnt so much from the few weeks of lesson and gained more confidence in doing physics questions.
In J2, during my first physics lecture, that was probably the first time that I understood what was going on.I also always failed the short quizzes that were given in school but in J2, I started to pass them.
Besides the teaching aspect, The Physics Cafe also has many new facilities such as shuttle bus services to certain bus interchanges, watching a lesson video if that particular lesson was missed and many more.
I'm glad that I joined The Physics Cafe when I did and I'm sure that other people would have benefited from this just as much as I have.
Jashini Hubert, NJC
I have definitely improved in terms of confidence and logical based skills for all the Physics papers I've sit ever since.
Even when I'm not in my best state of mind or have not studied fully, I will still be able to attain a reasonable result because the concepts are delivered so clearly that it can be easily understood and remembered.
The questions given helped to build on the concepts and it really took lesser time to solve those questions during the actual exams because of all the shortest techniques being taught.
I love how our welfare is so well taken care of and the learning experience is maximised so as to ensure tuition can be fun and interesting too unlike the usual thought that tuition is boring and time-consuming.
Every minute matters to the tuition centre and the students have definitely benefitted from that because we take the minimum time to learn all the concepts and we are trained to digest and unpack information really quickly, I love it.
I feel that I can rely on the tuition centre entirely for Physics and can thus put aside so much more time on my other weaker subjects and I am really glad at this advantage I have over my schoolmates.
I am now ever more prepared to get that highly sought after A for A levels physics.
Brandon Chen, NYJC
I felt that the physics cafe notes was very concise and was able to provide the framework and essential knowledge to be able to solve questions effectively.
This made revision for physics particularly easy and fast as I was able to go through most of the concepts very quickly.
I particularly found the focus on multiple choice questions useful as I believe that by being trained to be able to solve multiple choice questions in a short period of time, my fundamentals in the subject became a lot stronger.
This enabled me to be able to translate such problem solving skills to answering even structured questions.
I feel that the summary booklet provided could have included more essential definitions that we are required to remember.
This tuition is largely successful in anticipating the inquiries that may arise.
I found myself rarely needing to seek clarification after each lesson as the tutor has already addressed many potential concerns that I may have had.
I really like the new centre at Toa Payoh as it is furnished very well and the location is convenient. My favourite part would be the self service vending machine.
I joined The Physics Cafe early in J1.
I feel quite prepared for the physics A-levels.
I think the 2016 JC2 cohort of the Physics Math cafe will do well this year and I would definitely recommend my friends to join The Physics Cafe.
Joshua Tan Teik Ann, AJC
The notes given by physics cafe is very concise and i find it very helpful to read as a reminder before the paper because unlike school lecture notes which you cannot finish reading even half the syllabus in a day, physics cafe notes are straightforward and short but have all the marking points.
I only joined physics cafe in j2 march which i felt was a pity because if i had joined earlier, i would have a stronger physics foundation and also i would not have spent so much time trying to digest my lecture notes and barely understanding the chapter at the end of the day.
Even though i was with physics cafe for less than a year, i feel that my physics foundation is better now and i can do questions faster so i can finish the paper in the stipulated time.
I'd definitely tell my juniors to join physics cafe and i hope i can do Mr Sim proud at A levels!
Cheryl Ng, NYJC
I signed up for physics cafe from the very beginning of jc because my basics and foundations in physics were very shaky and I'm really glad that I did.
Not only did Mr Sim's lessons and techniques help firm up my concepts and foundations, the time limits that he set for us on every question helped me to work on problems and solve them within a very short time frame.
By introducing the hardest possible prelim and a level questions that can be tested on every topic and going a step further by categorizing within each topic the types of questions that can be asked, students at physics cafe are definitely at an advantage as they are equipped with the ability and experience to tackle any form of question that comes our way.
Mr Sim makes the most effective use of the 2 hours every week to impart the most essential problem solving techniques and knowledge that we need to get our As.
Furthermore, the complimentary food and drinks help us to be even more refreshed and less tired during our lessons so that we can absorb information efficiently.
All in all, physics cafe is a good investment because the experience and the efficient problem solving experience that I have gained can also be applied to other subjects as I'm made to think differently and quickly.
I'm really glad I made this decision and I wish Mr Sim the very best in his future endeavors and a big thank you for all his hardwork.
Jennifer Shyamalee, RI
I really like how the notes are short and concise, its also very convenient to carry around and refer to.
It helped me alot when I'm doing physics and didnt have to spend too much time referring to school lecture notes that are lengthy and misleading.
Going through popular questions expands my perspective on physics questions, Mr Sim made everything seem easier.
The new TPY branch is also really huge and comfortable, I like the vending machine the best!
If i were to turn back time, I would join physics cafe earlier and I would definitely recommend you guys to my juniors and friends.
Thank you so much for everything!
I really appreciate the admin, from making me a cup of hot milo to printing notes on time, thank you for making the whole experience more comfortable, it felt like home.
I hope i can do you all proud and reach my goal for physics As. See you all soon!
Megan Heng, CJC
Physics cafe provides notes that are very concise and to the point, as lecture notes usually have too many words, and we students have to spend time distilling the lecture notes.
It does help to save time when the tuition centre provides clear notes.
The lessons are also to the point and no time is wasted at all.
This tuition has also helped to improve my intuition for the subject especially in problem solving.
Many erroneous assumptions, misconceptions and thinking methods picked up during secondary school physics were dispelled, allowing me to solve difficult questions with relative ease.
Joining physics cafe in March was indeed useful and has helped me to consistently improve my grades as well.
I do feel prepared for examinations, thanks to this tuition, and would recommend my friends to join.
While the price is indisputably steep, noticeable improvements in physics problem solving skills,as well as in grades make this a worthy investment for those who need extra help to master JC physics. Mukund Bala, RI
The Physics Cafe is very effective in helping me to solve basic and complex questions.
Unlike the messy lessons in school, PC teaches me how to think methodically and approach the question step-by-step.
I also learnt to avoid common pitfalls and understand the concept instead of memorizing it.
Also, I feel that PC really thinks for the welfare of the students by planning different things to help us (e.g. video podcast, library, vending machine).
I am always very touched by their thoughtfulness and it makes me very happy :)
I would definitely recommend my friends to join the Physics Cafe as the lessons here are very effective in helping me to study key concepts and challenging questions.
The mind maps and concise summaries that we have made in lessons are also very useful when doing last-minute revision or recapping topics.
Yee Huei Chi, RVHS
Physics used to be my least favourite subject in JC1.
To me, the questions are unpredictable as there is not much can be done other than memorising formulas.
After struggling through the promos, I decided to join Physics Cafe, hoping to make a difference in my results, and it really works!
In Mr Sim's class, Physics turn out to be something not as tedious as how I used to think.
The concepts are actually easy to remember and understand, thanks to the mind maps and Secrets Enclosed.
A little manipulations make them almost applicable to every type of question!
I observe myself achieving consistent improvement in every examinations in JC2 after joining the class, and this really boosts my confidence in dealing with the A-Levels.
Chan Guan Yee, IJC
I was quite bad at Physics in Year 4 and it took me a lot of courage to choose Physics in JC.
However, I realise that Physics has become my least concern among all my subjects ever since I joined since start of last year and I have been consistently scoring As for all my Physics paper.
The lessons are very exam-oriented and focus on problem-solving and understanding of concepts at the same time, while school lectures are only able to fulfil the former.
The questions are carefully chosen so that we will not miss any concepts during our revision.
The problem-solving skills are also highly relevant in other subjects too.
There are also a lot of unique student welfare such as free follow drinks from vending machines, snacks and even shuttle bus to bring you home after a hard day at work.
Thank you Mr Sim for giving me confidence and enjoy Physics!
Song Lizhi, RI
The Physics Cafe has helped me to understand physics a lot better and has exposed me to many types of good and difficult questions which I probably would not have been able to if i did not join TPC.
Mr Sim is able to explain abstract physics concepts in a simple way that is easy to understand which helps a lot as I'm often confused with school notes.
I feel that the 2 hours of lessons every week are very productive and efficient as we get to reinforce concepts and practice them at the same time.
The new facilities are also conducive for studying and the free drinks are a bonus!
I joined TPC a few weeks before promos and I wished I had join earlier as I was really weak in my concepts.
I will definitely recommend my friends and juniors to join TPC!
Cheryl Ann Tan, NJC
After I joined The Physics Cafe at the end of J1, I felt that my grasp on physics concepts and answering techniques have definitely improved.
I now have greater and better understanding as compared to before and definitely would not have improved without the help of the lessons.
As for the new centre, I think it's a pretty good and conducive environment as I can always study there before or after class.
The admins and teachers are also really friendly and helpful.
I'm also very grateful for the drinks vending machines as it's always a good refresher after a tiring day/class.
For the mid years, I felt that I was more confident in answering questions as compared to before.
For the first time, I came out of the exam hall feeling like I did better! And yes I actually improved 2 grades this mid years! :-)
Though I could have done better on my part due to carelessness, I truly think that the June revision helped me a lot by refreshing my memory on all the past concepts and different question types.
Also I want to thank the Physics Cafe for all the services provided like the shuttle bus, food and drinks! Not to mention the cafe library for self-study!
It made traveling a lot easier and gave me a conducive place to study! :-)
The free snacks and drinks were also really convenient and a good way to refresh after a day of working hard.
Thank you Mr Sim and physics cafe for everything thus far! :-)
I may not have done up to expections (yours and mine), but I could feel and see the improvement, and I'm confident to work ever harder to achieve better results!
Charisse Lim, RVHS
The physics booklet contains condensed concepts and equation that allows me to have a big picture of what is going on within each topic and how topics are interconnected.
Furthermore, the concepts are clearer for certain hard topics than the notes given in school.
It allows me to learn more efficiently and focus on topics that i am weaker in so that i can improve at a faster rate.
The lessons also clear doubts on questions that i have in mind in certain topics and this allows me to have a better understanding of physics, a subject which i did not do well from the start of the year in JC1.
I would definitely introduce my friends to Physics Cafe!
Charles Quek Koh Wee, PJC
Attending physics cafe definitely helped me to learn the concepts much faster and I've stopped using my school notes as physics cafe notes are much more concise and to the point.
One thing that can be improved would be to include more qualitative question in the daily dose so as to get more exposure to more questions.
The tutors are very successful as in class we rarely have to ask questions as all the potential doubts that we have are all explained by Mr Sim before we even need to put up our hands to ask.
All the extra services provided are very good as not many tuition Centres care about the wellbeing of their students hence it is a great initiative on the Centres part to care for its students.
I started joining in the first half of the year in J1 and I think I am ready to a certain extent.
I would have joined earlier when I was in secondary school as my foundation for physics is very weak as I did not attend any tuition during secondary school.
I would most definitely be recommening my friends to join The Physics Cafe.
Mark Ng, CJC
Secrets Enclosed was really helpful for my learning of this subject.
Before joining TPC, I was honestly struggling with Physics and was always failing or at most getting an E grade.
The JC2 Physics intensive June crash course has helped me so much and made me enjoy studying the subject.
Although I still got an E during CT2, I think I made an improvement for this prelims, by getting a C grade.
Personally, I feel that the Secrets Enclosed is super concised and useful, but I think each individual has different learning styles so it might be better to make your own notes by refering to both your school notes and the secrets enclosed. :)
Lessons in TPC are also very intense. Mr Sim picks out the harder questions from his database of questions and forces us to think within an allocated time to improve our way of thinking.
However, accuracy and precision of answering these questions are not secondary.
Although we should think fast, but he will give some leeway if we needed abit more time to provide a more accurate answer.
As mentioned earlier, I only joined TPC during the physics crash course as I was really desperate to improve my Physics Grade.
I would definitely join TPC earlier if I knew about this tuition earlier.
TPC has really helped me and I believe if everyone puts in hard work, results will really show so I'm definitely going to recommend it to my friends!
In fact, I recommended two friends of mine to join! :) Jon Lim, VJC
The physics cafe is already very well-known especially amongst my peers in school.
In JC1 before I had joined the physics cafe, I never had any tutoring and was somewhat struggling to understand the concepts taught.
I managed to scrap through my promotional exams but I knew passing was not enough.
In the beginning of JC2, I decided to enrol in the physics cafe with one of my classmates.
What awaited me was something completely unique and different.
In the physics cafe, they do not just teach; they teach with understanding.
They teach you how to manage your time well, and teach you critical thinking skills.
It's a holistic experience where you feel at ease too.
My tutors Mr sim and Mr tan have been patient with me and they're quite funny hehehe :)
While sometimes I'm slow at understanding, the tutors make sure to leave no one behind.
Ever since, I feel more confident tackling my exam papers.
The Centre is really cosy and conducive for self-study.
In the end, joining the physics cafe wont only improve your grades, it will develop your interest and understanding in the subject, which is the most important thing if you want to remain positive in JC!
I never regret my decision to join and I had an extremely fulfilling experience there!
The problems we solve in class are of a wide range and exposes us to all the types of questions that Cambridge can ask so if we do see
similar qns in our papers we would have a certain level of understanding and might know how to approach the qns.
The incorporation of H1 qns helps and exposes to more types of qns as our school and ourselves rarely take the effort to go through H1 since we take H2.
I would recommend students to join.
It really helped me conceptualise all the concepts rather than just relying on memorizing the content we need to know and really understand the concepts.
It really made a big difference to my grades.
Before joining I only scored Us for physics and at most a S.
But after joining the physics cafe for only a year, I managed to get Bs.
It really made a big difference to my grades and improved my level of understanding of the topics taught in school.
Gillian Chong, TJC
Mr Sim's physics lessons are very engaging and productive.
He helps us by focusing on the important key concepts in every topic and always challenging us with difficult and interesting questions.
Before joining physics cafe, I merely pass my physics.
However after joining in J2 my results improved tremendously and I managed to top the class consecutively for MCT and JCT.
Physics cafe have pushed me to excel and gain confidence in physics.
I strongly believe that with Mr Sim's constant guidance and our diligence, it would be a smooth sailing path towards an A grade.
Tan Zhao Tong, TJC
The physics cafe has played a pivotal role in improving my physics.
When I first joined in J2, my physics was really bad and I was one of the worst students at physics in my class.
Fast forward to half a year later, and I am one of the best scorers in class.
What I felt helped me tremendously was the style in which the lessons were conducted.
As there is a lot of emphasis on exam answering techniques, I was able to grasp the techniques and the thinking framework quickly.
Furthermore, Mr Sim has made a conscientious effort to ensure that the students have a good and comfortable learning environment through the provision of free snacks and drinks.
Lim Chee Yit, AJC
I will definitely recommend the PMC to my friends as it's a one of kind tuition centre that puts a personal touch into what they teach.
You'll be able to learn what you'll dread learning in the most personal and anecdotal approach possible, which is going to be change the way you see your syllabus for the better!
The classes are effective in the sense that the syllabus content has been perfectly captured into just the 2 hours of listening and thinking. The pedagogy behind such ways of teaching is just simply timeless. Ethan Chia Cheng Wai, ACJC
Firstly, in such a short period of time(3 months),
i was able to improve my physics grade from below 35% to an all time high 65%,
honestly my self revision for physics was not very extensive,
it was all the hours spent in Mr Sim's classes that had me prepared for the exams.
The 2 differentiating factors of this class is that the content coverage is super efficient,
and the great emphasis on skills to answer tough questions, these 2 factors trained my unconscious mind.
It was like intuitive to me when i was doing my MYE despite not having enough practices on my own.
I am glad ive found this tuition centre early in the year.
Derron Leonardo Tio, MI
I only joined since the June Holiday workshop due to the struggle I had with Physics in school.
Joining the workshop has really helped me improve my grade (S) to an (E)/(D) 49.6%.
Honestly, I didn't like physics before joining the workshop.
However, I am glad that I am part of this crash course because it has really helped me gain confidence in physics and sparked my love for this subject.
Mr. Sim is very successful in bringing in difficult concepts into real world experiences which hence makes the seemingly difficult concepts very much easier.
The crash course has also been effective as Mr. Sim is able to tell us how the concepts can be tested and we are hence able to save time from re-reading our school notes for revision.
The Physics Secrets Enclosed booklet is a really effective summarised booklet and that it has really helped me solve questions with the simplest and shortest way possible.
I really enjoy the open cafe library concept to self - study and definitely love the free treats provided. :)
Jon Lim, VJC
The Physics Cafe has given me, by far, the best tuition experience I've ever had.
Mr Sim is able to understand and empathise with students' struggles and help us accordingly.
He is patient and is always willing to answer any of our doubts. His teaching capabilities are simply put.. superior.
He has the knack for explaining concepts in a way that anyone can understand by making it relatable.
He draws links from chapter to chapter whilst going into the crux of every topic, allowing us to see the Physics syllabus from both macroscopic and microscopic views.
In secondary school, Physics was always my most hated subject.
I disliked how there seemed to be so many hidden elements to a single concept, and that none of my teachers could offer me reasonable explanations as to how things really worked.
So yes, I memorised my way through 'O' Levels. Not fun. Boring.
But I remembered being mindblown after my first lesson with the Physics Cafe.
Gone were the "Don't ask so much, just answer like this" days.
Mr Sim ensures that every possible lingering question any student has is answered.
From then on, I started gaining confidence and interest in the subject.
May I also say that the Physics Cafe has the best staff ever.
And honestly, their planning skills are superb.
You can always trust them when you need help.
They take care of your welfare so well you'll start to wonder what else they can come up with.
From shuttle buses home, free food, free coloured pens, to even a gigantic vending machine.. I have no idea. Hands down the best.
Just enrol. Right now.
Pang Shihui, AJC
The physics cafe is truly amazing!
Before I joined the physics cafe, my knowledge towards most physics concepts were very shallow.
However, ever since I've joined the physics cafe, I've started to really come to understand the these concepts.
Mr Sim carries out lessons in a very engaging way and makes understanding challenging concepts a lot easier especially for students like me who are not strong in the subject to begin with.
The Physics Cafe also has a very conducive environment which makes learning a lot more enjoyable and they provide services such as shuttle buses and complimentary snacks which makes the learning experience that much better.
Samantha Ong, HCI
Dear Mr Sim,
I am mummy of Moses Tan Jing Yuan,of Physics Class,C2.He is from HCJC.
Moses will be taking his final paper for his A levels today - Physics 2-315pm.
I want to thank you for your precious time you spent with Moses sometime back when he started to have Tinnitus.
Your session with him certainly boosted his confidence and he began to believe in himself.
He was very thankful.for your advices and encouraging words.Thank you very much.
Moses would have his huge obstacles and struggles if not,for your belief in him, your kind words to which he held on and not to mention your very effective teaching tools in imparting your knowledge to him.
He has always enjoyed being your student. For him,it was a last minute race against time to better himself.
Thank you,Mr Sim,for holding Moses' hands and journeyed with him.
We thank you with a grateful heart.
Mrs Tan Lay Lay(Mum’s of Moses Tan Jing Yuan), HCI
The Maths Cafe has definitely helped me a lot in gearing me up to tackle challenging questions that aren't typical/standard.
This allowed me to gain more confidence in tackling any type of questions at hand and to hopefully attain >80 for the paper.
The Secrets Enclosed Notes are also very useful as a form of summary for the whole syllabus and it really helped me in maintaining my A for Maths ever since I joined TPC and thereafter scoring even better than before I joined.
Prelims had been tough and getting not only an A, but also somewhat my best Math results in J2 was a blessing and a booster for A levels.
By scoring better in my H2 Maths, it also helped me in my H3 Maths (MOE) which I am currently undertaking.
Koh Wen Hao, JJC
Mr Sim has made physics a lot clearer for me and I actually find it to be quite enjoyable thanks to him!
He always challenges us by giving us higher order questions and this has helped to expose me to a variety of questions.
The notes provided are also very concise and useful for exam revision. I would definitely recommend The Physics Cafe to my friends because
I feel that I have personally benefitted and they can too. Kelsey Goh, RI
The tutors I have met in The Physics Cafe are all extremely approachable and dedicated to teaching, never hesitating to extend a helping hand to anyone in need of help, even beyond lessons.
The level of readiness can be reflected in each and every lesson, as such motivating and encouraging me to seek further clarifications when in the slightest doubt.
The notes and questions presented for us are concise and succinct, effectively tackling the general problems or misconceptions students may have, and has been a very targetted appraoch to our learning, setting our foundation right.
The various services the centre has extended to students, such as a condusive studying environment, is to me, a demonstration of trying to provide the best for students, taking into account the welfare of all students, of which I am thankful for.
It is the tutors, who are going out of their way to care for us, which is unique to the tutors in The Physics Cafe.
The tutors are definitely and undoubtedly well-equipped to push their students to the peak of their performance during A levels, and there is no doubt the students can achieve the grades they are seeking for, with the guidance and care of all the tutors in the centre.
As such, I would definitely encourage my friends to seek The Physics Cafe as an option, when they need extra support in Math and Physics.
Thank you Physics and Math Cafe for the past year!
Ho Jing Ning, RVHS
I used to do very poorly in Math in J1, and the teachers at the Physics Cafe have helped me so much in helping me improve my fundamentals across all the topics.
The very succinct and yet concise way of teaching has helped me summarize and understand what I previously used to think was a lot to remember, and the very wide range of questions that are given during class has really helped in helping me identify certain types of questions in the exam when they come out.
I am really thankful I joined the Physics Cafe and I certainly wished I had joined in J1 but nevertheless the J2 journey has certainly been enjoyable for me.
In addition, I really want to thank both Mr Ang and Mr Tan for making the lessons interesting and their patience in answering our relentless questions, we really appreciate it!
Also, the math secret enclosed booklet is super useful!
Its such an effective way of condensing all the information required to look at right before an exam. :D
Ashwinii Selvaraj, RI
Physics used to be a very foreign subject to me but The Physics Cafe has offered me some clarity to the subject.
Mr Sim has a unique way of engaging his students and making the daunting subject seem so much easier.
Not only do we learn concepts, we learn how to apply these concepts into difficult questions - and the application, I believe, is the most essential exam technique to be acquired.
As such, I find myself growing to appreciate the subject each day. Furthermore, with the newly expanded centre at Toa Payoh where snacks, drinks and various amenities are available, it has been a pleasure to attend tuition every week.
I am confident that the JC2 cohort this year will be able to score very well, thanks to the help of The Physics Cafe! :-)
Seah Jia Ying, RI
I started going for tuition not because I do not understand the topic, but I need help in tackling the questions.
Information can be found from textbooks and lecture notes, but solving questions in an entirely different thing.
The physics cafe helped me to understand the topic even better and apply the knowledge to answer exam questions.
Mr Sim has helped me to become more confident in the subject and my physics have improved significantly after joining Physics Maths Cafe.
I can't fall asleep during tuition because every moment is a filled moment, every minute and second is maximised for teaching and learning, no time for slacking or an eye shut or to daydream unlike in school.
I will definitely recommend to my friends.
Esther Gay, ACJC
The Physics Cafe has helped me tremendously, after joining for 3 months, my grades improved from E to an A. I believe his technique and comprehensiveness has contributed significantly to my progress. I discovered things that I didn't know before and cemented my physics concepts. There were many opportunities for time trials which simulated examinations conditions (with Mr. Sim as the invigilator) that trained me to complete questions quickly and accurately. The two hours spent in tuition were very well spent and worthwhile. At The Physics Cafe, there are no delays only extensions, no judgment only motivation and no teachers only mentors. Under his strict and caring guidance, I feel that the 2014 JC2 cohort of The Physics Cafe will do well. Madeleine Poh, VJC
My experience in the Physics Café has been really pleasant as I learnt to understand Physics concepts much better and efficiently. The notes designed by the Physics Café are very suitable as they are concise and contain the most important concepts in every chapter. It is also very skill focused, which benefitted me tremendously in terms of answering questions. Before I attended The Physics Café, I was struggling to extract out main concepts in every chapter and to understand the concepts taught as the notes provided by my school has too much unimportant and distracting information. Even after spending a lot of time understanding my school notes and concepts, I was still troubled by the application of concepts in exams. After joining The Physics Cafe, I find that I can do my paper much better. More importantly, I am very glad that I have started to build up confidence in Physics. Mr Dave's lessons are very interesting and exam-focused. The students in The Physics Café are very capable and their capabilities really motivate me to work harder. I want to be as good as some of them. Generally, from my observation, this cohort can do really well in the A level’s. I will also work as hard as I can to make sure that I eventually reach my target in spite of the ups and downs in my performance during school exams throughout these two years. Ma Shenglin, HCI
The Physics Cafe provides a short concise lecture which focuses on answering technique as well as exam skills. This makes the Physics Cafe truly stand out, ensuring that every student is well equipped with the necessary skills and tools needed for the examinations. Another amazing tool which The Physics Cafe provides is the amazing "Secrets Enclosed" as well as the detailed, yet concise notes that come along with every chapter. This breaks every topic down to its first principals as well as the set number of skills that the questions about the topic can cover and test. This enables one to study efficiently and effectively for any examination as just flipping through the notes will ensure that one is able to absorb the important details for every topic! Most importantly, The Physics Cafe has a talented teacher Mr. Sim, who has an ability to get the main point of each topic across in an effective manner that one is able to remember the details for a long time after the lesson. Furthermore, Mr. Sim's lessons are engaging and interactive, ensuring that one is fully alert throughout the whole lesson, thus ensuring that no time is wasted. I would definitely recommend my friends to join The Physics Cafe! Colin Ong, RJC
Hi Mr Sim! Now that physics (and my A-levels) have ended, I thought I should send you this text :) Thank you very much for being my teacher & for doing more than just teaching knowledge to us. I've learned more than physics from you; you've taught me what tenacity really is and exemplified the persona of someone who takes a lot of pride in what he does, spurring me on to strive to do the same :) So thank you very much for that & for making physics enjoyable & almost painless to learn. I cannot promise you I can get an A for physics but I can assure you I've done my best and am grateful for your guidance nonetheless. All the best with your future/current batches of students & enjoy your well deserved end of year break!! Charissa Chan, SAJC
What I really like about The Physics Cafe is how Mr Sim is so dedicated and passionate about teaching and how he is always so patient with our questions. I never enjoyed studying Physics, but Mr Sim managed to help me develop a liking for this subject and made physics a seemingly simpler subject to deal with. Unlike tuition at other centres, I thoroughly enjoyed classes and look forward to lessons every week. One thing that was particularly useful was the secrets enclosed booklet where Mr Sim condensed an entire chapter's concepts into a single page which has made reference to notes so much more convenient. I really admire how he was able to compact two years' worth of work into 7 lessons during the June holidays. It was really tough having such a tight schedule but Mr Sim made sure that he never left out anything that was on his agenda. He has showed us that the questions were always centered around those few concepts and by repeating them, he has managed to drill those concepts into us. Mr Sim makes me feel very well-prepared for my exams as he has prepared all the necessary resources that we need for us. Thank you, Mr Sim, for being such a wonderful teacher and for always caring for our welfare before everything else. I will miss lessons here :) Khoo Ziwei, VJC
I got an A for physics and I feel really relieved and happy. I feel good about my results as i cannot ask for more. The Physics cafe definitely made a huge difference in this long journey. Mr Dave Sim is very meticulous and he takes the extra effort to be interested in every student's progress. He breaks down challenging concepts and explains them in further details. He consolidates tips into small booklets and teaches his students to be exam smart. He also gives us ample questions for us to practice and to increase our exposure to all the different kinds of questions with different level of difficulty. Yes I feel that I am able to understand concepts better than the other students in my school as I have a headstart to the topics that were going to be taught. I highly recommend my friends to join The Physics Cafe! Ng Tann Wei, HCI
I feel that attending lessons at The Physics Cafe has been extremely fulfilling and useful for me. The concepts taught are extremely clear as well and it really does help to boost my confidence on the subject. The explanations are also extremely detailed, as compared to the lengthy explanations given by the school. I do not understand 3/4 of the lectures in school because the lecturers are just horrible but here in The Physics Cafe, I can actually understand everything that is being taught within the short 2h. I am really grateful for The Physics Cafe as it was really an extremely pleasant 2 years experience with them. Zia Teh, HCI
I used to struggle with Physics in J1, as it was such a complicated subject to me. I did not understand any of the school's lectures and they seemed really boring to me. However, when Mr. Sim started to teach me the subject, I found myself understanding the concepts involved instead of pure memorising, and Mr. Sim always managed to simplify even the most complicated ideas in the H2 physics syllabus. Mr. Sim made learning Physics easy and even interesting, and I started to do better during my exams without much difficulty. Mr. Sim was also concerned about my grades and gave me much needed encouragement during the days leading up the 'A' Levels. My experience learning in The Physics Cafe has hence been very fruitful and enjoyable, and I would definitely recommend it to those who do not already know about this learning centre! :) Once again, thank you so much for your guidance and encouragement :) regardless of my result in March, I feel that you have really made Physics more understandable and fun for me :) Your physics lessons were indeed very helpful and enjoyable, I cannot even begin to describe how thankful and happy I am! Haha :) Jolyn Yeo, RJC
Hello Mr Sim! I just want to thank you for making physics so easy and reviving my love for the subject. When I first entered junior college two years ago I wasn't sure whether or not to take physics or biology and this was especially frustrating because both were subjects that I loved. I decided to go with physics despite being slightly stronger in the latter because the courses I wanted to take were linked to it. It was a decision I largely regretted in my first year because no matter how hard I tried, I never could do well in the subject. I didn't understand what went wrong, I listened to lectures, handed in all my tutorials, rushed through assessment books and tys papers(even in the first year) and I was still failing. It just didn't add up. I managed to stay afloat though, and hence didnt engage the services of Mr Sim until year two where I joined in the June workshop because I was really in an emergency situation. Honestly, I was a little reluctant to go for Mr Sim's class at first even after a friend told me about all the magic that he managed to perform for physics. I have attended tuition classes in secondary school before and I have had my fair share of bad tutors who never really helped me at all. Most seemed like an extension of school (or sometimes worse) and I didnt believe that the physics cafe was any different. That all changed however when I attended the first lesson of the workshop. Within 15 minutes of the lesson I learnt something new about the first topic which I thought I was a master in. Throughout the workshop my physics standard has certainly improved much and topics which I was weak at suddenly became easy and I found many misconceptions in the topics I thought I was strong in. By the end of it, I felt ready to take on the exams and that was when I decided to attend his normal lessons as well. Mr Sim has an amazing way of linking all the topics together and when the A Levels finally came physics wasnt a bundle of topics it was one big subject that I had finally gained confidence for. I would highly recommend Mr Sim to anyone who is taking physics at the JC level because he is a really good teacher and I'm not the kind to praise others easily so I really mean it. Heng Kun Qiang Amos, CJC
I feel that the exam techniques (grade A) questions are challenging and help me tackle difficult problems. I also strongly feel that the notes given by the lecturer, the short summary as well as the points brought up in class have helped me clear many doubts and understand a lot the concept better than in school. At the same time helping to "drill"/absorb important concepts. And I believe that coming for this tuition has really helped me in understanding difficult concepts better than I have understood when they were taught in school or during my independent study sessions. It is really a pity that I didn't join earlier. With this being said, I would definitely recommend this physics tuition to all my juniors. And I believe everyone who has joined this tuition earlier would ace the A Level exams, and those who joined later would do decently at least. Thulasie, NJC
The Physics Cafe has indeed strengthened my skills and knowledge in the subject. Before I joined, my command of the concepts was quite weak but I am able to answer questions more confidently now. Mr Sim has taken immeasurable efforts into breaking down strenuous, complex concepts down into bite-sized, easily understandable nuggets of information. His ability to systematically unpack and solve all sorts of questions imaginable and induce such mentality in his students to do so is what gives him the edge over normal schools' tutorials. I will definitely recommend him to students who are struggling in this subject, as long as they are willing to work hard and put in the same amount of effort into the subject as Mr Sim does in helping every one of us to excel at Physics. Thanks Mr Sim! Brandon Chong, TJC
In the Physics Cafe, the notes are concise and clear, making it easy for the students to understand. Mr Sim explains which formula is required under different circumstances, and explicitly establishes the link between various formulas. Beyond just the fundamental formulas, the technique involved behind various types of questions is explained, rather than just simply leaving it to the students to find out for themselves. This allows us as students to remain composed during the paper as we have learnt the necessary skills to tackle such questions. Time is spent much more efficiently at the cafe compared to ploughing through notes at home, being unaware of what we do not know. In The Physics Cafe, questions are modeled after the A levels, and covers a broad range of possible questions, allowing students to be well versed and equipped for the paper. Mr Sim helps explain what to look out for in the question, ensuring we correctly identify the focus of the question and hence applying the relevant concepts. Mr Sim keeps lessons engaging, ensuring all the students are able to follow the lessons. While doing practices, he helps the weaker students in particular, ensuring everyone benefits from it. His explanations are catered to the levels of the students and this was extremely beneficial as i was lagging behind the cohort when I joined. The Physics Cafe produces students who ace their exams as they are equipped with the necessary skills and are confident in their skills. I have no doubt the students of The Physics Cafe would do well. I definitely recommend The Physics Cafe for all students who may be struggling, it is never too late. I joined after CT2 and am already seeing huge improvements in my results due to the clearer conceptual understanding. Ryan Sek, RJC
Mr. Sim is really great Physics teacher. I have really benefitted a great deal from his teaching. His lessons are highly structured and very rigorous, and the hours spent at the PhysicsCafe really help me focus on the subject and really think about what my strengths and weaknesses are in the subject. The curriculum at the PhysicsCafe is very extensive and covers basically all the bases. With Mr Sim's teaching, I have become a whole lot more confident whenever I do Physics questions. THANKS MR SIM :) Yen Ren Zuo Brian, RI
The Physics Cafe has helped me grasp difficult physics concepts that I could not comprehend in school, using mindmaps and numerous practices for each topic. As much as extra practice outside tuition and school is required, the Physics Cafe has definitely shorten the time spent on revision and offers an edge through challenging questions asked and addressed by the tutor. Lessons at The Physics Cafe forces students to think all the time; the tutor bothers to ask each student a question during lessons to test their understanding, and constantly provide challenging questions to push our limits. The Physics Cafe has certainly boost my confidence in Physics and I can attempt questions with more confidence and ease. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who seeks to improve their Physics! Victoria Tan, RJC
The Physics Cafe has been wonderful in helping me with my physics,
I never knew I had the potential to actually do well in this subject
I was so scared of before I came here. Not only is Mr Sim so well versed in the subject that he makes it seem as easy as pie,
lessons are also engaging and the notes and incredibly helpful. There is an intrinsic difference between a student from this class and ones I see in school,
here we're taught to study smart, not just study, which I have realized makes a huge difference.
Every physics tuition class is so meaningful in the revision leading up to A levels and I am pretty confident that with all the help I've gotten from here,
I can get my distinction. Rashmita Kearle, TJC
Lesson in physics cafe continually challenged one to think on the spot and fast as well, putting our learnt skills in practice whereas in school, teachers are just waiting for someone to volunteer their answers. I think the method in physics cafe is more effective in engagingly the students to think critically and at the same time, forces them to not be distracted and stay focused.
The Physics Café had helped me gain confidence in confronting difficult physics questions. It also helped me gain a much greater understanding in physics topics, especially topics like electromagnetism. The notes are comprehensive yet summarised unlike the lengthy school lecture notes. We are exposed to a great scope of questions and this allows us to be more prepared for the actual exam. After joining, I have greater confidence in handling exams and I will definitely recommend my friends to join. Phua Shi Ting, RI
After attending the physics cafe, physics really got a lot easier with mindmaps and many short cuts taught through practices after practices. Previously struggled understanding my own school's lecture notes however Mr Sim has a way of helping students understand complex concepts through concise explanations. His lessons are also entertaining at times; livening and lightening the mood through some jokes! :) The June holiday lessons were the most beneficial as it is through those lessons that I was able to catch up with my J1 work and clear my doubts at the same time. Thanks Mr Sim for making physics a lot easier and more enjoyable! Chloe, SAJC
I find the lessons here very effective with not a single second wasted. Every single lesson I encounter new interesting and difficult questions and eventually knowing how to solve them is very satisfying. Physics has been a very enjoyable subject ever since I have joined! Michelle Loke, RI
The physics cafe has equipped me with various problem solving skills and new ways to approach grade A questions, which I do not think I would be able to do without help from physics cafe. Also, I have improved by leaps and bounds under Mr Sim, due to his clear explanations and his ability to break down questions which makes it simpler and easier to understand. Abigail Teo, HCI
I was amazed that a person without physics common sense like me was able to pass physics under the holy guidance of Mr sim; I have never passed a physics test in JC except for the mid years and prelim where I miraculously improved after attending his divine weekly lessons which equipped me with critical exam skills necessary to solve physics questions. He had also offered an invaluable perspective from the lens of a paper setter. It is unquestionable that my physics revision has become more efficient and effective with Mr sim, who is able to point out the key points and techniques to tackle different types of questions. I would definitely recommend my friends to join physics cafe if time can rewind. Cheung Song Ting, DHS
I will recommend my friends to join The Physics Cafe as they place emphasis on problem solving techniques rather than just rote memorization. This has allowed me to gain confidence during examinations as I am able to solve the more challenging questions. The Physics Cafe has also helped me to save precious revision time as they are able to go through more concepts and content in 2 hours than I am able to do alone in 5 hours. Damien Tan, SRJC
I definitely would not regret my choice attending The Physics Cafe. Despite starting tuition later than most of my peers, I would say that I have learnt alot thus far. Lessons are at a comfortable pace enabling me to be able to understand the lesson and each chapters taught well. Distance may be hassle as I live in the east, but it is definitely worth the trip and I can truthfully say that I have learnt something new in every lesson since attending classes here. I would definitely recommend this tuition to my friends. Jonathan Lim Ming En, MJC
The Physics Cafe has its very own efficient way of teaching physics. We were trained to think and solve the questions quickly, but with accuracy. The concept maps that we have filled in for every topic in the Secrets Enclosed is very useful to when we revise for exams. We spent a sufficient amount time to revise the topics, and come up with a concept map without compromising on the details of the topics. In this area, The Physics Cafe has helped me to use my time more wisely and this has certainly helped me to improve. In The Physics Cafe, we not only solve typical A level questions, we also solve challenging questions that will motivate us to think more in depth, enabling us to give better quality answers. Thank you physics cafe for helping me all this while and now I can solve questions with more confidence! Loy Yong Wei, NJC
Lessons are very well structured and every minute of class is put into good use. The notes are fantastic!! Mr Sim is very thorough and patient in explaining concepts. Also what i really like about Mr Sim is that he knows what we feel as students. I will recommend everyone to join physics cafe if they need help in physics! Cleona, ACJC
Some may think that travelling for tuition is a waste of time but personally I find classes at the physics cafe very useful. The notes are concise and to the point, and Mr Sim provides us with an easy way to remember the physics concepts and formulas. I especially find the secrets enclosed a very powerful summary of the key concepts required for the syllabus. Thank you for also taking the time to answer questions before or after class :) (This doesn't sound really coherent hahaha but I sincerely mean all that I've typed :) May Watt, RI
A lot of the questions used during lessons are great in helping me to understand the concepts better. It helps to save a lot of time reading my lecture notes and understanding it. Doing tutorial questions in class has also become an optional choice since the weekly tuition class has already made me do a lot of practice. To be honest, I actually really enjoy the lessons with Dave. Out of all the tuitions I have been going since young, I can honestly say that this is the only tuition that i have thoroughly enjoyed all the lessons. I think the best thing about this tuition would be that every student is constantly being engaged by Dave's questions. It forces us to think on our feet which is good because we are actually learning and applying the concepts. Of course I think my cohort will do well this year and i will definitely recommend my younger siblings to join TPC in the future. Aloysius Loh, VJC
Personally, Physics Cafe has been a great help in my understanding of Physics. Mr Sim have always used simple but specific examples to bring across key concepts to us, and these concepts are etched into me such that it makes revision a breeze. I cannot imagine myself getting the consistent good results in school without his guidance. Physics Cafe has allowed me to be ahead of my class at all times, a lesson a week is sufficient if one is attentive throughout it. I would definitely recommend my juniors or others in need of help in physics to join Physics Cafe. Thank you for the effort you have put in for us Mr Sim. Chen Yi Jun, ACJC
Time is never considered wasted each physics cafe lesson as I'm always able to learn/reinforce my knowledge each lesson. The physics cafe is different from other tuition centres/school lessons because they focus on A level questions and tackling grade A questions that most of the cohort won't be able to do; instead of just blindly drilling practice questions which is of less use. Students in the physics cafe understand the concepts very well and are able to get the answers very quickly. I think the 2015 cohort will do well this year. I would definitely recommend the physics cafe to my friends!! Natalie, TPJC
Attending lessons here has helped me in my understanding and learning of physics greatly. I used to think that physics was a very tough subject to handle, but now my mentality has changed. Mr Sim has managed to make seemingly difficult concepts so much easier to understand and grasp. In the past, I used to have a lot of apprehension towards physics, but now I actually look forward to solving physics questions!! June Tan Hwee Shan, HCI
The Physics Cafe has taught me very useful thinking processes and answering techniques that has helped me improve my Physics. The grade A questions that TPC provides have also benefited me greatly. Travelling to The Physics Cafe is definitely not a waste of time as what I learn/what is covered during the 2 hours lesson is definitely more than what I can do if I study on my own. After all, with The Physics Cafe, I am under expert help and as I continue to learn with Mr Dave Sim, I'm becoming an expert of my own. The Physics Cafe is definitely faster paced than school lectures/tutorial and we also cover more depth within a shorter amount of time in TPC. Though it may seem unlikely that it is possible to cover more within lesser time, Mr Dave Sim makes the concepts seem so easy that physics becomes an easy subject to grasp! I absolutely have faith the 2015 JC2 cohort of The Physics Cafe will do well this year and I definitely would recommend The Physics Cafe to my friends and juniors! Brian Pek, SRJC
Physics lessons in the Cafe has helped me tremendously in my physics throughout the past 2 years and I have thoroughly enjoyed my journey with TPC especially since physics seemed quite absurd to me in J1 before joining the tuition. Surprisingly, I've looked forward to every tuition as Mr Sim makes lessons very productive yet fun. Despite living quite far away from the TPC centre I go to, I've never felt like the travel time was time wasted because I probably learn more in the 2 hours then if I had to learn physics all by myself. Mr Sim is one of the best tuition teachers I've gotten and despite the large class size, he manages and provides attention and concern to all (and sends very encouraging emails from time to time). Very thankful to have found TPC! Thank you Mr Sim! Akshatha, AJC
I like how Physics Cafe compiles the entire syllabus into a small handful booklet, with each topic summarized into 2-3 pages! It provided much help in helping me understand the topic better, in identifying the different question types, and aided in my revision and practice. I learn something new at every lesson I attend, and it feels good when I can apply what I learnt into school practices and tutorials as well! Thank you Physics cafe! (: Adeline Ong, SAJC
I feel that I have definitely grasped a better understanding of physics concepts after each lesson. Even though results do not show now, I believe that my understanding will be reflected in the A levels. Thank you Mr Sim for making lessons understanding of concepts easy and building my confidence each time I do not do well for my exams. Jenna, NYJC
The Physics Cafe is really helpful in splitting each topic into parts and what are the different types of questions that will come out which makes us confident going into the exams. Having a guide to answer questions also has us stay calm when we see tougher questions. I also saved a lot of time in The Physics Cafe as difficult concepts that will take me hours to understand by myself can be explain within minutes with simple ideas here. In The Physics Cafe, just being there gives you a strange motivation to do well among people of other JCs especially the better ones. You are also trained to think quickly to answer the question until equations start popping out in your head within seconds. My peers here in The Physics Cafe are way more serious in lessons and are confident in themselves with is nice to see as compared to in CJC where people are really laid back. The JC2 cohort will definitely do as well or even better than the previous year. I will recommend my friends to join The Physics Cafe as everything is made simple even the most difficult concepts which really help. Pak Jun Wei, CJC
The Physics Cafe had really helped in making me understand the concepts of each topic. Lessons are very well explained and steps to solving different types of questions helped me solve questions at a faster pace. Revision and practice for physics is more efficient and effective at TPC than to do it by myself. I used to score straight U for physics when I was J1 and even when I spend extra time on physics, I still could not pass. But after joining TPC, I've improved tremendously and started to see how the vague concepts became clear. Thank you Mr Sim :) JesslynKoh, SRJC
The Physics Cafe stands out greatly from school lessons and even after tuition centers thanks to a few reasons. Firstly, the notes provided are specifically designed so that students must take an active role in listening to the lecturer to make them complete. In this way, students are motivated to really absorb everything the lecturer is saying and also remembers the lesson's content better due to writing it down. Secondly, the lecturer himself Mr Dave Sim is highly capable of engaging and retaining students' attention by consistently asking questions and looking at the topic from the students' perspective. Finally, there are many timed tests scattered throughout lessons for all chapters, and this serves to maximize students' efficiency at solving questions - by training them to think quickly and concisely while still paying attention to all the details in the question. Together, these three facets of the lessons enable learning to be more effective and more efficient than with lessons in school. Kenneth Fung Chen Yu, RVHS
I would recommend my friends to join the physics cafe :) even though it takes me an hour to get there and back every week, I really feel that it has helped me tremendously in my physics! Kathlyn Lee, ACJC
The Physics Cafe has helped me to consolidate all my concepts in a very effective manner and enabled me to have a clear understanding of the topics. This has greatly improved my confidence in physics, and the engaging lessons have sparked my interest in the subject. Attending lessons at the physics cafe is time well spent, with a comprehensive but concise coverage of a topic in each lesson. I actually wish I had joined The Physics Cafe earlier so I didn't have to struggle so much in JC 1! I will definitely recommend the physics cafe to my friends: Tanya Chee, HCI
Physics cafe has allowed us a better understanding of the syllabus within the shortest time possible. It has shortened the time I require to spend revising each topic. It has indeed been a challenging journey, from learning how to answer basic questions to grade A questions. Even though it has been challenging, Mr Sim has always taught the lesson with a cheerful attitude, making jokes along the way and making us laugh. I hope that these last few weeks of lessons will truly be fruitful and that I will be able to obtain the grade I hope for. Marcus Wong, ACJC
The notes are well summarized and easily understandable, and it helped me a lot during revision and understanding the topics. Math is really enjoyable as well, and my fundamentals are stronger after joining the Math Cafe. I think I'm more confident about math now, and I hope to do well and score an A for A levels math. Thank you Mr Ang for all the guidance and help the past 2 years and you really helped me a lot for math! :) Yao Zhi Qi Deborah, RI
I was consistently failing Physics in J1 despite putting the most amount of effort into it for my promos. It was still my worst done subject. I just didn't know my concepts well enough and didn't know how to approach questions. Until my senior introduced me to The Physics Cafe, and it was quite a life saver. My grades jumped to a C in lecture tests and I had a lot more confidence in physics now even being able to help my friends in school. I think what makes TPC different from school is that Physics Maths Cafe new concepts and topics are built upon layers of what was taught previously. Being able to link them helps us remember and understand them clearer as oppose to school's method or teaching topics on its own. Also the technique that TPC uses to help you answer questions are all very systematic which is a universal skill that can be applied throughout all types of questions making it much easier for you to answers questions from other topics. All of these factors made me very thankful and grateful for joining TPC. Nicole Low, MJC
The Physics Cafe has a very systematic and well-structured teaching method and materials which greatly aid students while doing their revision. It not only prepares us for our exams but also helps us understand the various topics. Mr Sim is an amazing tutor whouses creative methods and tips that further enable us to tackle tougher questions, which is usually what is not covered in school. Under the guidance of Mr Sim, I have become more confident in facing difficult questions. I will definitely recommend my friends to join The Physics Maths Cafe. Aathira, AJC
The Physics Cafe's pedagogy is very unique and different as compared to the conventional method of teaching Physics in schools/tuitions. Not only has it been very effective in answering examination questions, it has also saved me alot of time from revising from the school notes, allowing me to dedicate extra efforts into my other subjects. I will definitely recommend my friends to join The Physics Cafe, as their results can only improve if they do! Jesse Tan Ze Xi, HCI
I am very thankful the extra practice questions that are challenging and comprehensive in the form of booklets that can be easily referred to. I also like the Physics and Maths Secrets Enclosed booklet which contains all the essential key points and concepts as well as definitions and formulae which we need to know before taking any major exams! Doing all the questions in class as well as those in the Physics Maths Cafe "take away" package gives me more confidence in tackling my exams! Mr Sim also gives very clear and precise explanations of difficult concepts using analogies that are easily relatable to us; making something so difficult seem relatively manageable!!! Thank you Mr Sim!! Fiona, RI
The Physics Maths Café Signature June Workshop was really helpful for me because it helped me to consolidate everything and made me much clearer and aware of the Physics concepts, something that I couldn't have done on my own. Physics Maths Cafelessons are interactive and forces you to think critically and quickly. Questions prepared are also very helpful!! It's much more efficient at TPC than in school because we learn much more things here than we would have in the same period of time in school. Would recommend students to join Physics Cafe and thank you Mr Sim! Lim Sze Leng, VJC
My foundation and understanding of physics really increased tremendously from the short 2 months since i have joined, especially during Physics Maths Café Signature June workshop as it helped to clear many of my J1 topics concepts. TPC provides more than enough questions to help me grasp the physics concept better and Mr Sim's explanations were all very thorough, clear and concise. I especially like how he covers what really is important to help us score by highlighting and repeating the main points several times. For my school, I feel that they sometimes skim through the content and place more focus on things that are not very relevant and the explanation can get quite confusing. I would definitely recommend others to join TPC :-) Yeo Jia Li, ACJC
Before coming to The Physics Cafe, I was very much apprehensive about physics as it was my weakest subject. After a year of lessons here, I am able to understand the questions much more effectively and I am indeed more confident about physics papers. The difference between The Physics Cafe and normal school lessons is that The Physics Cafe is much more interactive and is not a monotonous lecture. TPC tutors ensures the students understand the content before moving on. I will definitely recommend my friends to join The Physics Cafe. AswinThiru, ACSI
I am very thankful and glad that I have joined The Physics Cafe since J1. Without the guidance I received from Mr Sim, I would probably feel very demoralised about Physics as a subject and wouldn't do as well in school. The Physics Cafe has definitely made me more confident in tackling physics questions and the skills picked up have been indeed very valuable to me. What I am going to say next is probably going to be quite extreme but sometimes I think that I can just forgo school lectures and just attend The Physics Cafe's lessons. I have never regretted joining The Physics Cafe and I am very grateful to Mr Sim and the team behind the tuition centre for their hard work and dedication. Thank you :) Lau Shu Qing, AJC
The physics cafe provides very short and sweet summary notes for every chapter that makes it easy to refer to when solving questions. Through attending lessons, I feel my concepts strengthening each lesson and the standard structure of what is taught makes it hard for one to go wrong. I have indeed become more confident of my physics since joining the physics cafe. Unlike school, the physics cafe is very clear about what they are teaching and make no deviation from what taught in the first place. Difficult questions seem very easy with simple thought processes in lessons here, while it takes quite some time for teachers in school to get answers. I would strongly recommend anyone who needs help in physics to join the physics cafe. Bernice Wan, ACJC
You have definitely made me more confident in the subject and I understand it better. Mr Sim is clear and concise and so are the notes. The questions he goes through are also relevant and really boils down to the clarity of the explanation and logic (other than quantum) but with understanding, it's easier to remember. Physics Maths Cafe teaches us what we need to know for A-Levels whereas school gives us too much information. I will and have been recommending my friends to join but it's too expensive for them. But I guess it's just Demand and Supply. Nichole Ng Yu Wen, SAJC
The workshop was excellent largely due to Mr Sim's teaching and presentation, which were clear, concise, and effective. Unlike school lectures, he engages the students by continuously asking questions they must answer, thus keeping them alert at all times. Also, it is clear the notes were prepared with the lesson itself in mind, allowing plenty of space for students to make notes throughout the lesson. This is a huge improvement over school notes where everything is already printed, meaning the student does not need to think and write. Finally, Mr Sim does not waste time on unnecessary parts of chapters. He jumps straight to the key parts that will help students solve questions and, most importantly, help students understand the chapter instead of memorizing the chapter. Such conceptual understanding is key to solving a wide range of A-Level questions, all of which Mr Sim also methodically covers in his lessons. Kenneth Fung Chen Yu, RVHS
The physics cafe teaches in the most straightforward way possible. The way Mr Dave Sim teaches builds on the fundamentals before teaching including extra information, which aids in understandingas compared to school lectures, where the information comes in chunks and students have to rely on themselves to sort out the information. The questions Mr Dave Sim chooses also helps the newfound knowledge to 'stick' much better, where as example questions in the lecture notes only require blind application of formulas. Thx Mr sim! Physics has become much more intuitive for me now! Ding YuChen, RJC
Physics cafe has made me feel more confident in terms of answering both the MCQs and short answered questions. Mr Sim is very enthusiastic and very knowledgeable when it comes to physics and he is also very efficient in the way he teaches us. He goes straight to the point and make concepts that are difficult to grasp become so easy to understand. We are also exposed to many question types and it will help me to better prepare for my upcoming prelim exam. I like the secrets enclosed that is given to us because it will definitely help me when i need to refer to the important formulas and help me during my quick revision. I would recommend my friends to join The Physics Cafe as it encourages you to see and think in another way that will help you to solve the questions fast and accurately! Loy Yong Wei, NJC
Apart from providing a summary, the June Holiday Physics Workshop also exposed us to 'grade A' questions for each topic which consolidated the information that we have been learning in school and test our understanding of the topic. The timed conditions also simulate exam conditions by putting pressure on us to solve questions. Mr Sim is able to break down each chapter into the key concepts and provides us with concise notes which would save us a lot of time in the future when revising. He can clearly explain the key concepts in each chapter and the common mistakes students make, and the approach that we undertake when answering questions. He made studying for physics much easier and has definitely boosted my confidence in the subject. Nicholas Loh, SAJC
The physics cafe helps students understand every physics concept in a very clear and concise manner. The notes are crafted in a very organized way which is very useful for a good summary of each topic and definitely helps us to save time when doing a quick revision of all the topics just before an exam. Attending physics cafe lessons have definitely helped me to be more confident in solving physics questions. Moreover, Mr Sim makes an effort to engage every student in class by asking each one of us questions to check our understanding of concepts. His explanations are also very clear and I will always new revelations and have a much deeper understanding of the topic after after attending his lessons. This is also something that differentiates the physics cafe from other tuition centres. I will definitely recommend the physics cafe to my friends. Tanya Chee, HCI
The Physics Cafe has really helped me to understand seemingly difficult topics in physics with much ease and has greatly boosted my confidence in physics as compared to the time before joining. The lessons are much more concise and is very effective in helping me understand the topic, much more in 1 or 2 lessons than what the school lectures can cover over 3 or 4. I would strongly recommend my friends to join The Physics Maths Cafe as it is honestly one of the best tuition centers around that can help you understand physics topics with much more ease than you can imagine. Ong Eden, ACJC
The June Workshop really helped me consolidate all my learning throughout the year and a half. It has strengthen and reinforced old concepts as well as helped me understand the new concepts faster and better. The skills learnt has helped me a lot in my revision not only for physics but the other subjects as well. After the workshop, i feel more confident to tackle questions and most importantly made me feel more reassured that I am capable of an A in the A levels Physics Paper. Cleona, ACJC
The physics cafe has made me more confident in answering physics questions. Mr Sim is very clear in explaining concepts and questions and is very concise. The notes (summary page) given are very useful and effective for my revision. I used to find physics very challenging but it has changed after coming for tuition here. In short, I'll definitely recommend my friends to join the physics cafe. Kelsey Goh, RJC
Physics used to be my weakest subject and I found it frustrating not being able to grasp the content of the school lectures as compared to my other subjects. You've not only taught me the correct thought processes when approaching questions, but have also inspired me to be more confident in Physics. The Physics Cafe is definitely a lifesaver and I will recommend to my juniors who are struggling in J1 just like how I did last year. Winston Tan, HCI
I'm much more confident in Physics after attending the Physics Cafe. It's different from normal school lessons because Mr Sim is very clear in his teaching and extremely concise. This allows me to pick up concepts much more quickly. I would definitely recommend it to my friends if they can afford it. Joel Seow, RJC
In JC there is really such a limited time for revision but The Physics Cafe is able to summarize content concisely into mind maps and emphasize on the important things for each topic. I had always leave lesson feeling mind-blown but definitely more confident of the subject. I would recommend Physics Cafe to my friends. Thank you! Adeline Ong, SAJC
Mr Sim is a very experienced teacher because he knows what typical exams/tests are asking for and able to answer many doubts/misconception even before we ask him. The approaches and skills Mr Sim introduced in solving different questions are easy to understand and less confusing than the way schools usually teach. The notes/ summary mindmap also help me to grasp the essence of each topic in shortest time possible, so I do recommend those who are still struggling in Physics to join Physics Café. Fang Ziwen, YJC
I indeed have become more confident in solving physics questions and would more or less know if I would get it right or wrong. TPC explains concepts clearly first to make sure we understand and then proceed to solve questions that are related to that concept to help strengthen our understanding which is something I find really effective. Shortcuts and tips to solving questions fast and right are also taught which helps in exams. Yes I would definitely recommend TPC to my friends if they are financially capable to do so. JesslynKoh, SRJC
The Physics Math Cafe has made me more confident about the subject as the notes are really summarized and get to the main point very quickly! Many different types of challenging questions are gone through in class and Mr Sim's guidance really helps! Compared to school notes Mr Sim's notes are very summarized and concise and get to the main point very quickly which is very useful! He also drills us with many many questions so we get used to the different types of questions that can be asked. Yep,I would definitely recommend TPC to my friend. :) Chew Qing Hui, Delia, RJC
Solving questions handpicked by Mr Sim has allowed me to better understand and apply physics concepts. His engaging and effective lessons has definitely helped me gain confidence in tackling challenging questions. I will recommend The Physics Cafe to any student who is struggling to follow lessons or to score in exams. Yue Xin, RJC
Mr Dave Sim's lessons are easy to understand and engaging. I am less fearful of Physics after attending The Physics Cafe. During the lessons, we also get to learn how to think fast to answer questions, a skill that is very important when taking examinations. Mr Sim also share with us tips and tricks in handling some standard questions. Mr Sim is also very encouraging. I would recommend my friends to join The Physics Cafe. Abelline Chua, RJC
I am definitely very much more confident in Physics! I have always second-guessed myself, especially for the more complicated topics or the ones I felt I was never very good at. But after one year under Mr Sim, especially the June Workshop, it definitely helped me to answer more questions with much more certainty as I do truly understand a lot more:) I think the main difference lies in the fact that Mr Sim always ensures that we get enough practice, and does not waste too much time teaching things over and over again, nor does he teach anything that is redundant. I have spent a lot more time practicing questions, improving both my technique as well as my speed. I think the large number of students he has is testament to the fact that his methods and teaching methods definitely DO work:) I would definitely recommend my friends to Physics Cafe!!! Lee Chan Wai, RJC
Throughout my journey in Physics Cafe, I have become much more confident in the subject as I am now aware of the approach I should take towards different questions instead of just thinking randomly for a solution. What makes Physics Cafe stand out from normal lessons is how it helps to condense every topic into 2 pages such that it is sufficient for you to understand the topic clearly. With the addition on challenging questions, we are further aware of how the concepts of a topic are applied in the question and the way to go about answering it. The Physics Cafe is definitely the right choice for students who are keen to ace their Physics exams. Ng Qing Hao, AJC
The notes written clearly identify the concepts and possible question types tested for each topic and definitely help me to be more focused when revising the different topics.I definitely feel more confident when doing the Physics paper after the workshop. Lessons at The Physics Cafe are at a much faster pace than those in school and the emphasis is on answering techniques instead of knowledge transfer. Tricia, HCI
Despite joining The Physics Cafe for only around 2 months, I see great improvement in not only how I approach questions but also my learning methodology. Compared to the thick school lecture notes which covers much background knowledge and less application relevant to tackling examination questions, The Physics Cafe has structured its lessons and organized the notes in a very concise and easily applicable way. This has helped me to move from spending lots of futile time revising materials with a diluted focus to being able to learn to sharpen my key concepts and practice applying them during examination preparation. I'm really glad that now, I can start to learn to go into the examination hall with an organized and clear mind with concepts in "Secrets Enclosed" rather than approaching questions in a random manner. Joining The Physics Cafe has given me learning experiences so enjoyable and fruitful that I would recommend it to any friend who desire to develop passion and confidence for the subject. GuYuling, HCI
"You'll never believe something so difficult can be so easy." Its really true though :-). Even though i only joined the physics cafe in june, it has been a very meaningful and productive session and i've learnt much much more. I would definitely recommend my friends to join. Brenda Fong, AJC
I scored an A for physics and I would really have to admit TPC played a huge role in this result. TPC may not have been the most cost savvy option for tuition but I definitely do not regret choosing TPC. It is just worth it. I believe what sets TPC apart from other centres is the quality of the notes. It gives plenty of notes but they are concise and easy to read everywhere. The tutor is also passionate about the subject and it definitely helps to have someone enthusiastic teach you in lessons that can be rather lengthy sometimes. The questions given in lessons are also difficult and is definitely more challenging than the average questions given in schools allowing you to have the confidence during exams. Jonathan Lim, MJC
I scored an A for Physics A level and i am really happy about it. The lessons in The Physics Cafe has been really helpful especially when the lessons are always well paced and easy to understand. The thing that makes the tuition experience better is that questions are asked and needs to be answered quickly as we do not want to look stupid in a class full of smart people. This really pushed us to think quickly and think smarter since giving the wrong answer is really embarrassing. The best advice for any subject including Physics is to make sure you know all the possible types of questions that may come out and the only why to do that is to keep on practicing. I would recommend anyone to join The Physics Cafe if they want to secure an A for Physics Pak Jun Wei, CJC
The Physics Maths Cafe notes are great and easily understandable. The fact that Mr Ang asks all of us questions throughout the lesson makes it more engagingand ensures that we do not get distracted. Hopefully we will all be able to get our As in A levels!!! THANKS FOR EVERYTHING MR ANG. Denise Wong, RI
At first, I didn't really want a physics tuition because since primary school, the only subject I need tuition in was English but ever since I got into JC, I never really got a grade that is close to distinction and I lost motivation in many aspects especially physics because I never really understood what was taught in lectures or tutorials. However, it all changed when I joined The Physics Cafe as Mr Sim was able to explain everything so clearly and systematically that everything seems so simple! I always look forward to his lessons as I know I will learn something useful ranging from understanding the contents to how to effectively use what you know to tackle those grade A questions. Not only can I catch up to my classmates in school, I also gained lots of confidence in answering difficult questions. I would definitely recommend my friends to join The Physics Cafe as it is really effective in pulling up my grades. Lin Jun Jie, CJC
It's definitely more time saving to learn from lessons in The Physics Cafe as self study has not been helpful for me. The lessons here helped me understand much better than I would on my own. I think the difference between me before lessons here and right now is that when I look at a question, I know methods to solve it and have the concepts in my mind. In the past, I am always unsure and guessed equations to use. The lessons here are much more focused and easy to understand than school lectures and tutorials. I think the cohort this year will do well. I know that I didn't really fare well for my prelims, but I really saw improvements in my overall understanding. I am no longer afraid of physics as a subject and I know that i have a chance to achieve my A in A levels(which I must!). I will recommend it to my friends because I could not imagine a better tuition for physics The Physics Cafe. Li Jia Ning, HCI
Hi Mr Sim, I am really thankful for this opportunity to study physics with you. Your lessons have been very engaging and exciting and has helped me to develop a passion for physics. The exam answering techniques that you taught in the classes and workshops have really made a difference for me. It has helped me to answer physics questions with much more ease and confidence. In terms of areas of improvement I feel that the experience on a whole was a very wholesome one and that there are limited areas of improvement academically. The Physics Cafe lessons have taught me to analyze questions better as well as apply the correct concepts to solve questions. It has also given me ample practice to build up my confidence as well as discover my areas of weaknesses. The tips and common misconceptions that you go through in class are really useful in giving me the edge over my peers in school. I would definitely recommend friends to join the physics cafe as it is really the most effective tuition centers around and it will definitely guarantee good grades if you put your heart and soul into listening and completing the assignments. Thank you for all the help and assistance along this arduous journey Mr Sim! Yan Chong, RVHS
Mr Sim is by far the best physics teacher one could ever meet. Before I came to the physics cafe, I was not confident in solving difficult qns. However, Mr Sim's approach to such questions really helped me gain my confidence to tackle such questions. He also explained concept's really well and his problem solving strategies helped me built up my confidence in physics as my foundation in physics was already very poor. He puts in a lot of effort into his notes while also selecting good questions for us to grasp the concepts of the topic. I was elated when I scored an A for physics and I only have Mr Sim to thank for it. Thank you so much Mr Sim! I would definitely recommend anyone having trouble with physics to join the Physics cafe. It'll make a difference in the way you look at physics, just like it did for me Rashaad Khan, CJC (after release of results)
The Physics Cafe really did a great job in teaching and guiding students to solve all kinds of physics problems including basic ones and Grade A questions. I still remember that before Mid Year common test, I travelled overseas to visit some of my relatives. I did not revise physics at all. However, with the help of The Physics Cafe, I still managed to get 85 percentile in my school. I do recommend all my closest friend to join The Physics Cafe. I believe that Physics Cafe would never let people down. Wang Fangyuan, AJC
Hi Mr Sim, I am definitely very happy to have done well for my physics paper. My experience in coping with the subject was never easy. To be honest, I began with a shaky start. I felt very lost when school first started. I was so weak in my foundation that I couldn't even properly grasp the physics concepts that were supposed to have been learnt in secondary school. My enrolment in The Physics Cafe gave me the opportunity to learn to overcome these obstacles. The Physics Cafe charted a course that was easy to follow and gave me confidence to keep trying despite making little or no headway along the journey. Mr Sim was a very encouraging teacher who inspired me to keep the faith and carry on working hard despite failures. The clear focus on problem solving techniques made seemingly arduous questions much more manageable. The concise notes made revision of materials a breeze. I might have been consistently doing worse than my peers in tests and exams, but I never felt inferior because the lessons at the Physics Cafe always gave me the confidence that I was on the right track and that I would succeed if I kept trying. It was a tough journey, but nonetheless, a learning experience that was worth the hardship. In the end, I got the only A that I had ever gotten in JC for physics. I will recommend my friends who are having a hard time with physics to try the Physics Cafe. Though the journey may be tough in JC, it will definitely be an eye opening and enriching experience. Spencer Teo, HCI (after release of results)
The Physics Cafe is an excellent place for anyone looking for help in physics. Mr Sim really helps you grasp the concept of the topic from day one. And he doesn't stop there. He goes on and teaches exam techniques and problem solving strategies. This makes a big difference when tackling a hard question as it helps me break it up into smaller sections and then answer it step by step. It also boost your confidence in tackling a variety of questions. I struggled in school tutorials as there was no emphasis on answering techniques, which Mr Sim focuses greatly on and this makes a big difference in the final exam. He puts time and effort into his notes and selects good questions. He ensures that we grasp the ability to solve even the most difficult of questions.I would definitely recommend anyone struggling with Physics to join The Physics Cafe! It'll make a big difference in your perspective of physics. Thank you Mr Sim for everything! Rashaad Khan, CJC
What distinguishes The Physics Cafe is the clarity with which Mr Sim teaches the content, problem-solving techniques and answers questions.I was quite confused about Physics in JC1 and was quite demoralised after repeatedly receiving dismal grades in school; upon attending lessons here, however, Mr Sim taught the content really clearly and taught very effective problem solving techniques, and was able to answer all my questions! With my doubts cleared and with a better grasp of the content, I quickly regained confidence in Physics and saw my grades pick up again, something I had not thought possible! The notes provided are very concise and useful too, and the lessons are really structured to reinforce skills and content learnt during class. Mr Sim is also a very good tutor who's willing to answer all your questions and ensure that you understand fully. This is the only Physics tuition I would recommend anyone to join! Kate, RJC
I will definitely recommend my friends to join The Physics Cafe. I started off in early Feb in J2. The previous year, I got a D for Physics in my Promos. This year's CT1, I got a B. I am very confident in my J2 topics because Mr Sim has helped me to understand all of it.If only I started coming in J1! Mr Sim also maximises the time we spend in tuition. Not a single minute of the two hours are wasted each week. Perhaps you may baulk at the fees considering that there are ~20 or more people in each class. But I can assure you that so long you remain focused in class, you will gain much more than you can expect as Mr Sim gives everyone equal attention. The part which differentiates Mr Sim is that he is always available should you have extra questions to ask, there has not been a single time where he has said "No, sorry, not this week, I'm not free." In spite of his busy schedule, he always helps his students. Finally I would like to commend The Physics Cafe for their integrity as a company. Due to a miscalculation, I once paid an extra $50 in tuition fees. A week later, Mr Sim immediately returned it to me. I can't say for sure, but I am not confident that most tuition centres would do this. To any and all reading this, you MUST come for The Physics Cafe if you are looking for Physics tuition. Lim Jun Heng, RJC
Mr Sim has made a big difference when it comes to studying for my Physics A Level paper. I only joined in J2 but I managed to see a stark contrast in terms of how I studied for Physics before and after joining. The lessons are very useful in teaching me how to answer questions according to what the examiner wants because Mr Sim teaches using examples and not lecture-note style. In addition, he understands the common pitfalls in students' way of understanding a particular concept and why they would think in that manner. By addressing them, he helps us to fully understand the topic such that we can answer the questions confidently during exams. Also, he does not only go through the solution but the entire thought process when answering different types of questions. This ensures that when it comes to exam time, even if we haven't seen the question before, we still have a very good chance of deriving the correct answer. Joelle Ho, ACJC
I achieved an A for physics and was very satisfied with my score. Even though I was aiming for that score, actually receiving it first handedly really made me feel quite accomplished. Joining this tuition centre enabled me to clear my doubts on the fundamental concepts and build up my knowledge on the subject through easy-to-read and compressed notes. Mr Sim taught me how to use a step-by-step way of answering common and challenging questions which my school may not have prepared its students for. In class, he will time us to complete a set of questions, which I feel helped me gauge my time better during the actual exam and answer questions well at the same time. Outside of class, he gave more than sufficient practices with worked solutions, making me constantly practice and not forget the important physics concepts. This also allowed each student to do the given work at their own pace, fully understanding each topic before moving on to the next. Overall, it was nice to know that my efforts paid off and I will definitely recommend my friends to join The Physics Cafe!) Joanna Tan, ACJC
Hi Mr Sim, before I joined The Physics Cafe, I was very reluctant to take up tuition at JC level because of some bad experiences in secondary school. The lessons were not properly structured and it was difficult to learn. Coming to The Physics Cafe, however, has changed my perception entirely. Detailed explanations in class, coupled with concise notes and clear emphasis on problem solving techniques were very helpful in grasping concepts quickly. The lessons were engaging and well paced, which helped to build up my confidence in the subject. The tutor, Mr Sim, was also willing to spend extra time outside lesson to help clarify my doubts. My journey with the Physics Cafe ends with the commencement of the A levels. Though the preparation was demanding and tiring, it was nonetheless an enjoyable and enriching journey. I am thankful to have Mr Sim walk this journey with me, and for his constant encouragement that helped me pull through the tough times. Thank you for your help Mr Sim! Spencer Teo, HCI
The Physics Cafe experience has been especially life-changing towards my attitude and interest towards Physics. Before attending TPC, I hardly had any motivation to do physics & would always shun it aside. However, with the help of TPC & Mr Sim's step-by-step guidance, physics has become fun & interesting! The concepts explained are very concise & drills on your understanding of the subject, which is very important to succeed in physics, which some other centers do not really deliver! I am so thankful to have joined the physics cafe & would definitely recommend it to my friends! Thank you Mr Sim!! Cohort of 2014 will do well & make you proud! Renitta Thomas, JJC
Everything has become so much easier ever since I joined TPC. Mr Sim is able to explain all physics concepts very well such that we are able to understand them very quickly. The 2 hours are well spent every lesson. Uditi Bareja, ACJC
The Physics Cafe has concise and organized notes that are completely different from lecture notes in schools which are chunky and overlooks main points. I think with these notes students will know what they have to know within the shortest time possible. Since they are eventually preparing for the exam, it's better to learn faster and learn more. In schools lectures are not as efficient as tuition and the physics concept is not delivered clearly unlike The Physics Cafe. I would recommend TPC to my peers. Jessie Lau, AJC
The Physics Cafe's summaries have helped me a lot in preparation before exams! Thanks Mr. Sim. Akshita Ravi, JJC
The Physics Cafe notes are well consolidated with simple mind maps to summarize the complicated concepts. Mr Sim is an awesome lecturer who is able to make the lessons enjoyable and fruitful. Every lesson is definitely worth the time and money. Under the guidance of Mr Sim I'm sure the cohort would do well this year. I would definitely recommend those who are losing hope to join The Physics Cafe! :) Denise Chan Yun Xuan, HCI
I first visited The Physics Café after June holiday session and the tuition fee was expensive to the normal other tuition centre. But there was a reason behind it. I was fascinated by the way Mr Sim taught Physics. He does not just go through concept just like other tutors in JC. He always points out key words to remember and the technique to approach each question. I used to have a bad habit of jumping straight to the questions without thinking about what the examiners are testing. However I am in the process of getting rid of this habit as what Mr Sim has instructed. And it brought about a big improvement on my grades. Also, unlike other tutors, Mr Sim never overlook why some students have gotten a wrong answer. He always asks how the student approach the question, pinpoints the mistake and shares with other students so that they do not make the same mistake. It saves everyone's time and derives a win-win situation. This was very helpful especially to me since I joined the center late and did not have enough time to attempt many questions. I would strongly recommend this tuition centre not only for the effective teaching method but the tutor's teaching attitude. He is always prepared for lessons and to answer any questions. Mr Sim is also always willing to help students. Jamie Lim, PJC
Mr Dave Sim has imparted highly systematic and efficient ways to approach examinations to his students, eliminating unnecessary stress and anxiety faced when dealing with tough papers. He also encourages the understanding of Physics concepts both in depth and breadth, such that his students are better able to break down hard questions and answer them in a way that fulfills the examiner's requirements. I will definitely recommend my friends to join The Physics Cafe. Zheng Fan, RJC
The Physics Cafe has been successful in developing problem solving techniques and exam skills. The mind map given is helpful in summarizing all the main points of the chapter, allowing me to solve and preempt different types of problems in the exam. Travelling to the physics cafe weekly is not a waste of time as the lessons allow me to understand the topics better in a shorter time compared to being at home. Lessons in the physics cafe are more productive and clearer as compared to what the teachers teach in school. Mr Sim teaches us techniques to solve problems quickly, which may not be taught by my school tutor. Yes I think the 2014 JC 2 cohort of the physics cafe will do well this year. I will definitely recommend my friends to join The Physics Cafe. Kelly Chong, NJC
The Physics Cafe provides short and concise notes for us to easily grasp Physics concept unlike those long and detailed notes provided by the school. I manage to understand Physics concepts better within a 2-hour long lesson at The Physics Café than 3 sessions of lectures in school. Mr Sim brings across ideas easily to us and makes learning of physics interesting. Without Physics Cafe, I would not be able to see the progress in my Physics grades! With effort, I believe that the 2014 JC2 will be achieving their desired goals. I will definitely recommend my friends to join The Physics Cafe! Samantha Hong Hui Lee, CJC
The Physics Cafe has been very beneficial to me throughout the past two years. I learnt the basic exam techniques and methods to score well, which my school lecturers do not go into much detail. Although I live far away from the tuition centre, I believe it is still worthwhile to travel here as I am able to revise whatever I have learnt before within 2 hours, whereas I may take longer at home as I'm easily distracted. Lessons at The Physics Cafe are aimed at drilling key concepts into students via intensive practice. I feel this is very suited to my learning style as I need more practice to score well. The occasional homework, although dreary to do, is actually very helpful as I get to revise whatever I have learnt in 10 or so questions, especially before a test. On the whole, I would recommend The Physics Cafe to anyone who is looking to score an A in Physics. Jeremy Tan, HCI
The Physics Cafe has been a monumental help in my journey as a JC student. The notes provided are adequate, understandable and greatly speed up learning and understanding of a topic. Mr Sim provides comprehensive care for all his students and motivates us through many ways. For instance, he gives us quizzes after lessons sometimes, which greatly enhances our learning experience. The JC2 2014 cohort at The Physics Cafe is very well-versed in Physics concepts, therefore, they would be able to excel. Lastly, The Physics Cafe's interesting methods definitely would allow students to better grasp Physics concepts. I would strongly recommend my friends to join it! Pang Kai Jun, PJC
Yes I would definitely recommend my friends to join Physics Café because I've improved tremendously ever since I joined. Mr Sim is really engaging and helps break down each chapter into individual concepts that we have to know/memorize. I never knew studying physics could be so effortless and easy. By simply attending the weekly lesson at Physics Café, I can now focus and invest more time on studying other subjects that I'm weaker in. On top of that, Mr Sim has also helped cultivate my interest in Physics and I am even thinking of doing Physics-related university courses. Wan Yuquan, RI
Physics Cafe has been very successful in helping me answer any type of question, be it easy or challenging. However hard the questions may be, Mr Sim always breaks down the question until it is possible for anyone to solve any type of question. Before I joined The Physics Cafe, I have been constantly failing Physics and I struggled to understand any concepts. Needless to say, Physics was my most dreaded subject. After having joined The Physics Cafe, my improvement was so sudden and I passed my first ever Physics test. From then on, I have never failed Physics and was performing better than many students in my class. All these would not have been possible if not for Mr Sim who is so gifted in explaining concepts so clearly that anyone can understand the content without having the need to look back at their lecture notes. Lessons at The Physics Cafe are very unique with a cozy learning environment and many opportunities to answer questions. I believe students from The Physics Cafe will have a better grasp of concepts and confidence when tackling Physics problems, having been through rigorous training by Mr Sim. I am certain that the 2014 JC2 cohort of Physics Cafe will do well this year. I will certainly recommend my friends to join The Physics Cafe and I wish The Physics Cafe all the best in the future. Thank you very much, Mr Sim! Neil George Dominic, AJC
Before joining the Physics Cafe I had difficulties summarizing my notes and sometimes, I fear that I might miss out important and essential concepts. Since joining The Physics Cafe, I do not have to spend hours and hours reading my school notes just to understand a particular concept. I can just take Mr Sim’s notes out before exams and quickly revise it. Moreover, the notes include examples similar to exam standard. Attending Mr Sim's lessons has been a real eye opener. After spending long hours in school for physics lectures and tutorials, I might still not understand what was taught. However, after attending one lesson at TPC, I magically understood everything I was previously unsure of or did not understand. I will definitely recommend The Physics Cafe to my friends and juniors as it is definitely worth the money and time. TPC helps you understand Physics better. As compared to hours wasted trying to figure out what is being taught in school on my own, it is worth the time travelling to The Physics Cafe. Daniel Nur Hakim Ismail, RI
The Physics Cafe has been a tremendous psychological boost to my confidence in Physics. Before I came here, I was hesitant about practicing Physics because it was one of my weakest subjects. However, the unique method of learning here, from the colorful and simplified mind maps, has radically transformed my attitude and aptitude for Physics. I am confident that this batch of students will benefit tremendously from the lessons and do well for the final exams. Thank you Mr Sim for your exuberant teaching which never fails to light up my Physics journey. To put it simply, Physics has been a joy. Cheryl Tham, HCI
The past two years with Mr Sim certainly was an enjoyable time! Physics in JC certainly became a breeze when my teachers went through concepts that I had already learnt at The Physics Cafe! The Physics Cafe does a great job in introducing the Secrets Enclosed booklet, which definitely helps students save time, in terms of looking for formulas. The Physics Cafe supplies loads of useful and necessary materials to help students, but only if they choose to do the work that is given. For me, I live very close to The Physics Cafe, so I am glad that I don't have to spend too long travelling. Neither do I have to take so much time to revise physics as a whole. Physics cafe certainly gets to the points that you need to score instead of overloading you with basic examples that do not really test your understanding of concepts but application of formulas, which is not what exams really test. Peers in The Physics Cafe are more relaxed I would say, since we all know the secrets and tricks behind some of the questions, while others may have to struggle a bit harder than us to do well in Physics. I definitely think that the JC2 cohort of 2014 will do well (gut feeling). If my friends do need help with physics, I definitely recommend that they join the Physics Cafe! Benjamin Lee, CJC
Mr Sim is a great teacher who has succeeded in summarizing the essence of each topic in a concise manner. The distinction rate of the students speaks for the quality of the teaching. Hua Qiang, VJC
I enjoy the emphasis on exam questions and answering technique. Gives targeted experience in understanding question intent and phrasing answers without wasting time on content reiteration alone. Tuition at The Physics Cafe really saves a lot of time. It moves faster and exposes me to a wide variety of questions. This helps me to distinguish what questions are asking for and has helped greatly in saving time in exams. Timed practices and quizzes also force students to practice thinking quickly and clearly under stress, something that is rare in school and other tuition centers. Students at the physics cafe have a much stronger exam technique than those outside, and also recognize common pitfalls (e.g. Non-SI units in question info) more easily and consistently. This helps to save many marks that we could have gotten otherwise. I would recommend my friends to join TPC especially for the revision workshops and crash courses which are extremely engaging. Amanda Chung, RI
The physics secrets enclosed is very well written and comprehensive and has helped me greatly in my revision. Perhaps more info can be included regarding qualitative questions as the notes are very concise (not a bad thing). In physics cafe, the questions done in class revises all the concepts tested in each chapter such that we are able to answer commonly asked questions and get a better grasp of concepts. The explanations given are also in depth and comprehensive. However, in school, tutorials are done in a touch and go manner and sometimes questions are skipped to save time. I am not able to understand the concepts fully. Jemima Soh, RI
Skills on tackling questions and tips to have the right mentality upon entering the exam hall are really useful. It helps that tough questions are specially identified and worked on in class, saving us time in picking out the questions ourselves. While it was hard to keep up given that I joined The Physics Cafe at quite a late stage, the classes served as motivation for me to work harder and close up the gaps in my knowledge to make the best out of every lesson. Overall, the biggest takeaway for me would be in the way I view the exams, in that I'll no longer be so worried and stressed out but rather see it as a way for me to express what I know to the examiner to the best of my ability, and to be able to figure out what each question is trying to ask before crafting an answer to fulfill the requirements. Nicholas Koh, RI
Hi MDS, your exam techniques are legendary, and definitely the best kind of help I have ever received, and i believe it is my part that has not been executed as diligently as desired to get that A. The two hours here are more productive than 5 hours anywhere. Mr Sim is student oriented and really knows how to capture our attention without needing to be naggy or annoying like most school teachers. His unceasing enthusiasm wakes us up in class and makes everything interesting. I will without a doubt recommend my friends to join Physics Cafe, especially since my circle of friends are willing to invest in education. Charmian Lee Jia Min, ACJC
I think the physics cafe trains speed very well. The physics cafe definitely cut down time taken for me to make sense of my school's notes and grasp main points, so I really appreciate it. However, I do think that it will be great if there are more lessons in the Clementi branch, because Marymount is a tad bit far, but it's not a big issue :) Singapore is small. One of the best parts about The Physics Cafe is that Mr Sim explains to us in pictorial form very often and I find that I'm able to comprehend it in a better way compared to my school’s notes which has either too many words or diagrams that are far too because he brings us through his thought process. I hope our cohort can do well!!! Really hope so :) Thanks Mr Sim for all your help!!!! Yong Zi Fong, NJC
I have been in The Physics cafe since the start of last year due to my mediocre physics results in secondary school and have even come to love the subject. I was able to consistently top the class for physics and I have recommended many classmates to come here and most of them have found it useful and improved. I am confident that with Mr Sim's teaching, the 2014 cohort of The Physics Cafe will do well and maintain The Physic Cafe's current standard and even improve. Thank you for your teaching and guidance throughout these 2 years sir! Tan Boon Ping, SRJC
Hi Mr Sim, your lessons are very intense but I like how you break down all the hard questions to make them seem less daunting to us. I feel that I've been learning new answering techniques every lesson and I really appreciate that. Thank you for all the help you've given and I hope with that, I'll get a satisfactory result for As. Thank you (: Li Youjia, RI
Mr Sim is a very spot-on teacher who knows exactly the common misconceptions that students have in certain topics. The emphasis he placed on exams-smart techniques have helped me a lot in being more confident in answering questions too! His notes have certainly helped me in being able to consolidate all the information for each topic. Wong Mun Fong, CJC
The Physics Cafe has really broken down each topic to its core and helped us understand each topic from the basics. The June workshop helped me out tremendously by not only covering a wide range of all the topics but also going through the popular questions. I have gain a lot of confidence, enough to hope for an A in the A levels unlike before. The lesson environment is also wonderfully set up and it can be seen that there was a lot of effort put in into decoration and other details. The environment is made really conducive for studying. Lastly, I belief many of us would have gain not only confidence but also lots of knowledge from the journey this year. I will definitely recommend my friends, and I have, to join The Physics Cafe. Zeng Fang Ni, HCI
Mr Sim is a vastly experienced teacher who is able to express his thought process to the students clearly. The little book of secrets is a concise and thorough guidebook that had been a great help for me especially just before the exams. Eric Lim, ACJC
Physics Cafe is definitely worth every single cent spent. Lessons may move at a very fast speed but it's good because it forces you to pay full attention. Mr Sim's lessons are very understandable and I'm able to grasp the concept of topics relatively quickly. It is so much more efficient compared to schools lectures. Definitely a must go! Zamen Lin, HCI
I personally believe that the physics cafe has allowed me to have a clearer idea of the different kinds of questions and concepts that can be tested for every topic. And through all these lessons, i honestly think that I've improved by a fair bit since i joined because back in JC1 physics was like a guessing game whereby I used any formula from the back of my head, hoping to get the answer right, which usually doesn't happen. After every lesson that I attend, I truly gain more confidence in Physics, as everything that seemed so difficult at first starts to get a little easier. And that If I were left on my own to study, I would probably spend hours and hours trying to figure it out. The difference between Physics cafe and my school is that everything is different. My teacher in school likes to dwell on a question for extended period of time. For example, he went through 1 Quantum MCQ from 2007 paper for more than an hour, not kidding. Sometimes, at the end of the lesson I'll be equally or even more confused than before. However at Physics Cafe, I constantly feel on task and that Mr Sim is able to explain everything in a very different way such that things do seem easier, and the things that I learn in 1 lesson can equate to what I learn in a 2 weeks in school. Also, I believe that the grade A questions that we do weekly has allowed me to have a stronger skill in problem solving, and not just stare at the question empty mindedly. Honestly, the people at Physics Cafe definitely have a stronger grasp of concepts, and most are able to solve questions at a faster and more efficient way, as a result of the time practices that we've gone through. Koh Jia Qian, CJC
The Physics Cafe has been a great help to me and I would definitely recommend my friends to join The Physics Cafe if they can. Lessons are very engaging and his explanations are very clear. Repetitions ingrain concepts that come in handy during examinations. The constant practices that we do during lessons make us sharper and faster which really helps during the exam so during papers we are calm, confident and relaxed. The practice booklets that we receive are also very useful and help us to be exposed to almost all of the possible question types in a particular topic. Physics revision has been made very easy by Mr Sim with his concise and precise notes that tell us everything that we need to know. Marissa Ang, TJC
Physics cafe heavy emphasis of problem solving and making sure people have a good grasp of core concepts, have help us save time. Unlike schools which spend time on irrelevant concepts and the structuring of notes is very messy. Lim Guan Kiat, PJC
Mr. Sim has definitely been a tremendous help to me in my understanding of Physics! I have become extremely confident in what I am doing and I almost always can explain properly to my friends whenever they ask me physics questions! I would definitely say that Mr. Sim was very successful in teaching the exam answering techniques but even better is the fact that he made Physics look so easy ! Indeed, I will never believe something so difficult can be so easy until I joined the Physics Cafe. I think what sets Mr Sim apart from other Physics teachers is that he is very adept at teaching us the concepts behind each Physics topic and I think the most amazing thing is that he can somehow make Physics so fun and alive at the same time. Anyone can always see his enthusiasm as he teaches Physics! In my opinion, I think Mr Sim is very genuine and he always has his students' welfare at heart. He has been very motivating throughout my journey at the Physics Cafe and I know he will continue to inspire even more students. Learning Physics has never been so enjoyable before and I would definitely recommend my friends to join The Physics Cafe (as I already have)! I would never settle for less than an A for Physics at the A levels and will definitely do Mr. Sim proud! Finally, many thanks for Mr. Sim's patience and guidance throughout. My time at Physics Cafe was truly memorable and enriching! Cheong Jia Chin, AJC
The physics cafe has helped me so much in grasping concepts in physics. In school lectures, teachers tend to cover a lot of content in a short period of time, perpetually leaving me confused and less motivated because physics would seem like such a difficult subject. At tuition, concepts are very succinctly organized to aid answering of questions to enable us to understand what the questions are asking for. Initially I was very involved in my CCA and never had much time to study because I was always so drained from school. When my work lagged behind, I was unmotivated especially since the content was so difficult to grasp. With Mr Sim's help, I was better able to appreciate physics and started catching up with my work a lot faster than I thought. In addition to helping me academically, Mr Sim is a very encouraging teacher. Despite having so many classes a week, he still makes sure to open up more time to talk to us to ensure that his students are coping well with stress and school related problems. It is very reassuring when teachers make an effort to do so and definitely helps me to regain some motivation and drive for the A levels. Camellia, ACJC
The tutor teaches us step by step and we have the chance to do grade a questions. The summary map is very comprehensive and convenient to study. L V Sree Bagvath, AJC
The Physics Cafe has really helped me a lot on improving my physics. Mr Sim is a really experienced physics teacher who is able to help and inspire many students to give their best in physics. His physics notes are very good as he is able to deliver the main concepts in a very clear and concise way which has aided a lot in my learning. I will definitely recommend my friends to join the Physics Cafe. Thank you very much Mr Sim! Suresh Babu Pragadeesh, ACJC
The Cafe is very successful in providing detailed notes on every topic that are easy to understand. Also given the practice and training in class, it is very assuring personally. I do not think I am wasting my time going for tuition, in fact the time I spent there to cover that range of concepts, I would have spent much more time on my own. The Cafe ensures that concepts and techniques are easily understood. Students from The Physics Cafe will have a better understanding of concepts, compared to their peers. I am sure we will do well. Gurnihal Singh, AJC
Before I came to the physics cafe, I struggled very much with Physics. Questions that came at me seemed so foreign and demands so obscure that I had great difficulty in even applying my knowledge of physics to answer them. Thankfully, the skills I have learnt at physics cafe helped me approach complex "Grade A" questions systematically and efficiently despite meeting such unfamiliar situations. While other teachers may teach me how to solve specific questions, the lack of a systematic approach and thinking which the Physics Cafe provided, had often left me unable to solve the next difficult question. I think the secret to the success of the Physics Cafe in helping students get their desired grades is probably their effective system of teaching and exam approach. I would highly recommend any lost souls who seek the grace of a Physics god to join the Physics Cafe. Emily Koh, SAJC
The Physics Cafe has been successful in making the understanding of the subject easier and teaching exam skills to score well. It definitely helped me save time to grasp concepts that I would otherwise have spent a very long time on. The difference between this and school is that the 2 hours feels more efficient and effective. Yes I would recommend others to join the physics cafe and the 2014 cohort will do well Ho Rui Yan, TJC
The lessons in The Physics Cafe are different from other tuitions that I have attended before as it is very engaging and focused. I find it useful and I feel more confident as Mr Sim paces us to do the A level papers as well as sharing his own solutions with us. I hope that there will be a timed mock paper for us before the A levels so that we can give ourselves a final check on areas that we still lacked and improve on it. Chen Jingwen, JJC
Mr Sim uses many different programs and analogies to explain concepts. He introduces many methods to solve really challenging questions. I really like his crystal clear explanations whenever he teaches us a new concept. He is a really passionate and caring teacher. Darryl Tanujoyo, CJC
The Physics Cafe has helped me with my physics a lot in the sense that they provide me with a detailed framework of how to answer both qualitative and quantitative questions. I would strongly recommend anyone struggling with physics to sign up for it! Tay Kang Ming, NJC
Looking back at 2011 after the O levels, never would I have expected that I could get an A for physics A levels, on top of how through the 2 years in JC, it was one of my best subjects. This is not because I am at all talented in physics, let alone highly interested in it. Rather, it was by the guidance and patience of Mr Sim that made this possible. Difficult concepts were made understandable, easier concepts were made meaningful, even revealing the depth of knowledge behind it. The rigor in which physics was taught at The Physics Cafe is remarkable. Concepts were taught on the basis of what the students could best grasp them from. Exercise questions were meticulously selected to provide breadth and depth to the chapter. Practice sets were given to us to ensure we could master the chapter at our own pace, balancing the demands we had from other subjects. The way in which The Physics Cafe is modeled reveals the kind of teacher Mr Sim is. Meticulous, yet visionary; rigorous yet understanding; disciplined yet caring. Therefore, it is truly no exaggeration when I say that Mr Sim is one of the best teachers I've had the privilege to know in my life. Thank you very much Mr Sim! Charissa Chan, SAJC (after release of results)
The Physics Cafe has really helped me a lot as a student to grasp concepts better and to tackle exams better. It has been the catalyst to the improvement i have made for my Physics subject. The Physics Cafe, with Mr Sim especially, has made Physics so fun and interesting for me that i've never ever lost interest in it ever again no matter how hard it was, or how boring it might have been. Physics Cafe lessons are very different from school's tutorial and lecture system as it goes right into the main crux of JC life, which is to solve A level questions. School's prefer to help us develop and understand the topics and do no emphasis as much on the examination techniques as The Physics Cafe does. The Physics Cafe provides us with the essential tools to supplement our knowledge and thus make it simpler for us to answer questions as we now know what Cambridge wants. I would definitely recommend my friend to join The Physics Cafe as the essential tools you gain to tackle exams and the supplements to your knowledge are just the basic things you will obtain. The bond and friendship you will form with not only your mates from the Physics Cafe but also with our dear Mr Sim will be very much worthwhile for all of us. Ng Wei Peng Jordan, RJC
Mr Sim is a superb physics teacher that is completely different from your typical JC lecturer/ teachers.Even though I was a consistent student in school, I was rather confused by the physic theories taught by my school lecturers and hence repeatedly scored badly in school tests/exams. Rather baffled and frustrated by this, I was urged to find the best solution to improve my physic grade with the A Levels looming and this was when I was recommended to go for physics tuition at the Physics Cafe.Astoundingly, Mr Sim was able to explain theories and concepts so clearly, it is as if I was introduced to physics for the first time all over again. The small class size also makes it convenient to ask any questions to clear my doubts, and hence making it much more effective than school lectures/tutorial classes. Mr Sim's teaching methods are also interesting, concise and easily understandable. The notes he specially made for his students are another plus point, where school notes wane in comparison and can be cast aside.By taking the very last minute resort to improve my physics grade in the last 2 months before A levels by not only going to weekly tuition but also the holiday crash course, one may say that I was very lucky to have obtained an A in my A levels physics; but the other reason would be because Mr Sim is such a good teacher! :) Yan Tong, RVHS
Before I entered this tuition, I thought I had known everything about Physics. However, the first test I got back was a dismal 5 out of 25. It brought me to this cruel reality that in junior college, physics is not that simple as just "applying the formula" anymore. In fact, it is so much more than that. Thanks to some online research, I was able to find The Physics Cafe and I never regretted for a moment joining it. My Physics immediately shot up to a borderline pass at the next major examination and I was surprised by how much I had actually not known. Mr Sim is not only a great teacher, but he has made learning both fun and easy to remember. Through him, I have learnt so much more than what my school lecture notes can possibly hope to have. It was always tiring for him during Saturday morning as he only has a 1 hour break before the next lesson. However, he still stayed back to help many of the JC2s who have urgent questions that require him for help. Without him, I shudder to think what would have happened to my physics. With him, I am confident and approach papers with the belief that I have the ability to conquer almost any question. Thank you Mr Sim!(: Ng Yan Lun, MJC
I would certainly recommend my friends to join The Physics Cafe. It is a unique gift of an individual (Mr Dave Sim) to be able to present Physics in such a simplistic manner. Despite joining Mr Dave Sim's class late into my J2 year, the weekly lessons made a tremendous impact on my grades and gave me confidence for my upcoming exams. What I absolutely love about his lessons is that he makes an effort to ask every student questions and this definitely helped me pinpoint my weak areas Tan Pek Nan John, NYJC
The thing that struck me about Mr Dave Sim was how dedicated he was to teaching and helping his students improve. We had a class from 4:30pm to 7:00pm, following which he had another group of students at 7:30pm – meaning that he had barely half an hour for his dinner. However, he often extended our lessons and answered our incessant questions, resulting in him having less than fifteen minutes to eat. (Sorry Sir ><) The four of us started lessons with him with only a few months left to the exam, in other words, a crazy crash course. I was terrible at Physics, really really terrible, but Mr Dave Sim managed to help me understand various concepts through his precise, yet simple explanations. One thing that was particularly useful was the mind map he'd create for each topic, condensing the entire chapter into a single page of concise and extremely useful notes. Make no mistake about it, those mind maps were our lifelines on the day before our exams. It was pretty tough having such a tight time constraint, but Mr Dave Sim was extremely patient, going through multiple questions and repeating examples to make sure we got all our fundamentals right. Somehow, we covered all that was necessary, and did well in our exams. Lessons weren't only informative – they were highly enjoyable as well. The four of us actually looked forward to Thursdays! Mr Dave Sim made use of interesting teaching methods to help us visualise abstract Physics ideas. Videos, animations, models – you name it. He particularly had a knack for little magic tricks (too bad we figured them out though) which held Physics notions behind them. Learning Physics became fun and exciting. You'd want to have Mr Dave Sim as your Physics tutor, because really, he is an awesome teacher. Not only because of how capable he is, but because he truly has a heart for his students. I wouldn't have conquered survived Physics without his help. Thank you so much Sir! :D Lydia, ACSI
I have understood much more in the few weeks of going for physics cafe than I learnt in my 2 years in school. Thanks Mr Sim for your guidance! Your jokes and the free coffee helped me to stay awake to grasp the complicated concepts which I failed to comprehend in school. I used to fail physics but now I'm performing much better, one of the top few in my class Matthew Wong, CJC
Mr Sim's lessons are really great, he is an awesome physics teacher in that he really helps you understand the physics concepts behind each topic and also helps tie the different parts of a topic together! His methods to tackle questions are also very effective. He makes it really very easy to understand Physics and I've learnt more under him in 1 year than I could in 3-4 years at school! He has completely overthrown my years-long belief that Physics is a subject not meant to be understood! Thank You Mr Sim, you're a genius! :D Maithili, RJC
Before I attended The Physics Cafe, I was scoring pretty badly for physics. There was always not enough time for me to complete the paper as the questions were always so demanding. Well, that was before I joined The Physics Cafe. Ever since I started attending Mr Sim's lesson, I realized that the questions which I thought was demanding was actually quite simple. There's always a definite method for solving the different question types. Plus, Mr Sim also teaches us how to solve questions as quickly as possible. Now, I'm scoring my As and Bs for all my major physics examinations, mainly As. I will definitely recommend The Physics Cafe to my family and friends. Chen Yi Hong, CJC
The Physics Cafe definitely helped me to start to understand the concepts of physics that I had always thought as "senseless" and "useless". At the same time, Mr Sim has actually made me more interested in physics. It's definitely the right choice to choose The Physics Cafe as no 1 tuition centre option :) Eliza Ng Sue Ying, MJC
My experience with The Physics Cafe has been an enjoyable one. I first joined The Physics Cafe during the 2011 post-promos crash course and since then, my physics have improved tremendously. Mr Dave Sim is a very patient, knowledgeable and, not forgetting, funny teacher. Thank you very much Mr Sim (: Nigel Ng Khai Jun, RJC
Thank you Mr Sim for helping me improve my grades tremendously! Mr Sim's notes are very concise and useful for effective learning! His explanations and teachings are very clear and short which makes me able to understand and digest what he has taught us! Justin Onggo, YJC
I must thank Mr Dave Sim and his precisely and accurately prepared "Physics secrets enclosed". It is handy, succinct and informative. Before every exam, I would go through it thoroughly, that gave me the mental readiness and confidence. The concepts gone through during regular lessons are very clear, Mr Sim does highlight the topics with greater emphasis and the relationship between some. The Physics Cafe focuses on the very essential of understanding Physics more than just being able to answer the usual questions. It is the thought process. With understanding, naturally, our results have jumped. And with sound recommending this tuition to my juniors. I have benefited from the programme and I'm sure it'll be likewise for my juniors. The physics cafe is there to support you, if you fully utilise the materials given, like completing all your "daily dose" for every chapter, there's no reason why you won't enjoy Physics and do well in it! Thank you Mr Dave Sim and the Physics Cafe. Leow Andrew, RJC
Mr Sim is really the coolest teacher one can ever have. He makes physics so fun and easy to learn! He is just like a friend to all of us and it was never difficult for me to approach him with questions. I looked forward to his lessons every week because they were always enjoyable. Getting an A for physics was definitely a no-no for me but that was before joining his tuition. With his comprehensive notes, creative teaching and fun-loving character, how tough can it be! I love physics so much now because of him! MR SIM YOU'RE THE BEST ^___^ Sheryl, RVHS
Mr Sim has been my physics tutor for about a year now and indeed it must be said he is one of the most likable teachers around. The first thing that strikes you about Mr Sim is that he is indeed a teacher at heart. Mr Sim enjoys a passion, magic. We all know that magicians never like to reveal their tricks, no matter how trivial they may be. However, Mr Sim has on several occasions taught us a few of his tricks, of course not before performing them first. (Let me stress that this was of course done during our free time!) To many this may seem as an irrelevant point, to me it is a testament of Mr Sim's character. Teaching is in his blood, by it physics, magic, or other things. What makes him so special is not only his heart to teach, it is also his personality. Despite being our teacher he has still retained his youthful nature and is able to bond with the class on a whole new level. In my opinion, a teacher cannot effectively communicate his or her knowledge without first bonding with the class. I've never enjoyed a lesson so thoroughly and learnt so much at the same time. Indeed my journey with Mr Sim has been short, it has been an unforgettable journey. Though as a student close to competing my A level i'll "disappear like the pen in ear" (this is reference to a trick taught to us by Mr Sim), i'll never forget what Mr Sim has taught me over this period of time, and what he represents. (a rare breed). Bravo Mr Sim. A million thanks of gratitude (: chris 09S06H (i mean every word =p) you're the best, RJC
I would say that the centre has been very successful in implementing techniques so that students are able to score in their exams as compared to their peers. What can be improved would be having more questions of grade A standard so that students can get experienced to the full blow of A levels.Firstly and I would think most importantly many physics tutors in my school treat physics as a dead subject. They feel that it is something just like secondary school where stuffing information to us would suffice. However, in the Physics cafe, physics is alive(: we can see how something actually works and clears the many doubts that we might possess in secondary school where information is stuffed into us. Secondly I would feel that the physics cafe has very concise notes that makes the students interested in dng more of physics. Be it due to the small size of the booklets or the fact that we are dng so many mcqs, something is clearly working there.I would definitely want to recommend my friends to join the physics cafe. Ng Yan Lun, MJC
Lessons at the Physics Cafe are unlike any normal mundane lessons in classroom and you'll always look forward to attend his lessons. Thursday has always been a day I look forward to since the day I joined the physics cafe. Mr sim is very charismatic and encouraging tutor. He made physics lessons very interesting and every laws and principles just fall in the right place. The experience in physics cafe is a very fruitful and enjoyable one and will definitely miss them.. Thank you mr sim!! You'll be missed! :)) Samantha Loke, MJC
Since JC1 ,my girl in one of the top JCs had changed 5 Physics tutors. Mr Dave Sim is the sixth. Before she joins Mr Dave Sim's class she was demoralised and had no confidence in learning Physics cos no matter how much time she had spent in Physics she did not do well in her exams. After joining Mr Dave Sim's class in end of April, She is gaining interest n confidence in learning Physics. She started to feel Physics is as intresting to learn as Chemistry which is one of her stronger subjects. Mr Sim's STYLE AND WAY OF TEACHING makes Physics a subject which is SO MUCH EASIER AND FASTER TO UNDERSTAND and hence can derive the answers by the FASTEST AND EASIEST WAY.Each time after his lesson,my girl is able to handlle better her school tutorials and also those self-practice questions. My girl always says " IF I HAVE MR SIM AS MY PHYSICS TUTOR FROM JC1, I WILL HAVE NO PROBLEM IN GETTING A.HE IS DAMN GOOD" In conclusion, I will STRONGLY recommend him to anyone who needs Physics tuition. Mrs Tanaka, Mum of Yuki, VJC
The Physics Cafe really helped me a lot on improving my physics. From not being clear with the concepts to know exactly what the question is trying to test. I am really fortunate to be able to attend classes in the Physics Cafe to know more about physics and the fun of it ! The main difference between lessons in The Physics Cafe as compared to school and other tuition center is its thoroughly summarized notes with clearly defined concepts. Most importantly, Mr Sim has the ability to analyze and explain the question and concepts in a much more simpler way that makes answering question much easier. He is also able to give interesting examples to help us imagine the scenario to understand better! I will definitely recommend my friends to join The Physics Cafe! It's really beneficial ! I would also like to thank Mr Sim for being such an awesome physics tutor and for all the things and efforts you have done for us. Thank you so much ! Jasmine, MJC
HELLO MR SIM!!!
Being a DSA student, I’m heavily committed with my CCA. As a result, a huge portion of my time has to be allocated to training sessions. I found it difficult to juggle between studies and CCA. I started attending the Physics Café in the hope of being able to pull my grades up. The Physics Café provides a systematic way of studying and answering questions. It helped us develop a clearer and deeper appreciation for the subject. Because of this unique way of learning physics, I felt that the studying process was a lot faster! Thank you MDS! Woo Kah Leong Benedict, RJC
Mr Sim is a responsible and experienced physics teacher whose passion for teaching inspired many of his students to thrive for their personal best. As one of his student, I found his lessons intellectually stimulating, as he prepared well for each lesson and his interesting and insightful remarks successfully attracted the attention of students. He made learning not a stress but a joy, yet he encouraged each student to develop their intellectual potential to the fullest. I personally found the summary physics notes prepared by Mr Sim most useful, as I often felt suddenly enlightened by his brief yet in-depth analysis, and these notes serve as a wonderful guide for my revision as they helped me to clear and organize my thoughts. Most importantly, Mr Sim taught us a series of logical methods to approach physics questions, which I found extremely useful especially when our academic workloads are getting heavy. This method allowed us to effectively simplify complicated questions, and extract the most important information from the question in the shortest period of time, so that we can hardly be tricked or perplexed by those seemingly difficult questions. Huixian, RJC
I was really bad at physics (Averaging around S or E?) all the way till my J2 mid years where I improved significantly after attending the june holiday crash course where Mr Sim showed me how to solve physics problems in ways which I never considered before. He managed to make physics really fun and easy for me and I eventually managed to get good results at A levels which was a feat I never thought I could achieve. I was that bad at physics! His notes were really useful, comprehensive but short enough so that it does not become a turnoff and it was really handy to refer to before the start of the physics paper. Thank you Mr Sim for being my physics tutor!! Grace, NJC
From the point of someone who does not find physics largely interesting, I have to say Mr. Sim's classes are always interesting. I espescially found his lecture notes helpful because he combines the important parts of the topic together with an array of questions. Mr. Sim was always more than happy to explain topics repeatedly until his students have grasped the concept sufficently and is ready to hang back after class to answer questions and clarify doubts. His tution classes, concept maps and regular class tests helped me pull my physics grade from an S to an A. Thanks Mr. Sim! Thara Nair, MJC
Mr Dave Sim is very clear in all his explanations, even for the H2 topics that are usually hard to understand. This helps me grasp difficult concepts more easily and be able to apply them in problem solving. Thank you so much for teaching me over these two years and I'll definitely recommend my friends to join too! Zheng Xi, RJC
Mr Sim’s physics notes are excellent as he is able to present the main concepts in a topic in a clear, concise and compartmentalised way that does not breed confusion like the way some of the lecture notes do. This is especially important in the subject of Physics at the ‘A’ levels as a logical, systematic train of thought is fundamental to understanding multi-faceted physics concepts. His Logical Problem Solving system of thought is extremely effective in solving complex physics questions by providing a step-by-step guideline that is applicable to almost any physics question. Mr Sim’s unique and hilarious style of teaching is very effectual in getting the points and concepts across to his students. His ability of using familiar examples from everyday life to explain obscure physics concepts (like semiconductors and quantum physics) are especially effectively and memorable. Shan Shan, RJC
For me, Mr Dave Sim has been like a friend, albeit a very smart one, who was always there when I needed help. He doesn't give you the impression that typical teachers give (think: uncaring and unconcerned). I think this trait of his makes attending his lessons an immense joy. That aside, I would say that he is really very strong in his physics concepts, which diffused over to me via his super effective teaching style. The method that he teaches does not involve anything complex, and hence, there is no need to memorise much (except for definitions of physics terms, a requirement that no one can escape from). As a result, my physics results shot up from class average to one of the top. I would say, my concepts are so good now that this subject has become a breeze to me. In addition, Mr Sim, gives out great notes (something he's proud of too)! You only need to browse through these notes before the exams to sufficiently refresh your concepts. 5 stars! I think the tuition fees were totally worth the value that I got out of this experience. Thanks Mr Sim! Huang Peng Fei, RVHS
I studied IB Physics [HL] with Mr. Sim in the months leading up to my final exams. Before I started with Mr. Sim, Physics lessons at school didn't make much sense; concepts were disconnected and poorly organized, and were pitched a level that went way over our heads. My teacher told me, frankly, that he didn't expect me to do well. After just five months with Mr. Sim, though, I got the best possible score for my final exam of 7 points. Mr. Sim is a dedicated teacher, who was determined to give me as much time as I needed to do well. He has full confidence in his students' ability as well as his own, which inspires even the most unenthusiastic students. This confidence is not uncalled for; my friends and I showed a rapid and marked improvement in our test results even after just a few sessions! His notes are concise and well-explained; his unique and problem-solving-based approach ensures that the student understands the reasoning behind the Physics, and he tailors his style for each student. And not only is he capable, he's nice as well; he has a great sense of humour and boundless patience. He fielded even my most inane questions with perseverance. His ability to explain concepts from multiple angles allowed him to clarify questions that continued to trouble me, as opposed to a lot of the teachers out there who just keep repeating themselves until the student gives up and pretends to understand! He's also well versed in the tips and tricks of question setting, and is able to advise his students on common mistakes and even some of the more unusual ones, which was miraculously useful for our very tricky final paper. Thanks, Mr. Sim, for putting the sense in science. Sandesh Kaur, IB Physics HL
The Physics Cafe is not just about Physics. Mr Sim has demystified the A level examinations, imparting skills which one would find not just useful for the Physics paper itself, but for other subjects as well. He has developed a philosophy on the taking of examinations, where no single question is ever too difficult to solve - there is a logical approach towards solving Mr Sim manages to make even the most difficult concepts bite-sized, and with the many time practices, confidence in handling the toughest of questions can be built. Thank you Mr Sim! Bryan Wong, HCI
Mr Sim is a very dedicated teacher who has the rare ability to teach physics in a concise, clear approach. Physics has never been easy for me to grasp. But after joining Mr Sim for close to 2 years, i have been taught again and again the key concepts of each topic. Once you have grasped these major concepts in a topic (1-2 concepts at most), things become much easier and the topic becomes less and less daunting. Keeping in mind that the entire physics syllabus only comprises of 20 topics (spread across 2 years), physics with Mr Sim is actually not a difficult subject after all. That being said, Mr Sim's lessons are the perfect complements to lessons in school. In fact, any of his students will say that they've got the edge over their peers in school because of the materials Mr Sim provides and also of the techniques taught in understanding and answering questions. Overall, I highly encourage my juniors to learn physics from mrsim, not only because he is a driven teacher who is 100% dedicated to help his students achieve the A, but also because learning physics as an A level student under his guidance has been a worry-free and engaging experience. George Wong, DHS
Prior to joining the Physics Cafe, I knew next to nothing about physics, and was more than convinced that I'd chosen the wrong subject. Ever since I started lessons with Mr Sim though, I became more and more clear about the fundamentals and concepts of physics, and also grew more confident in answering Physics questions. A large part of this has been undoubtedly down to the focus on techniques of answering questions, which I find quite efficient. On the overall, Mr Sim has to be one of the best teachers I've had, and his lessons are also very engaging. Clarence Neoh, RJC
The Physics Café is the best Physics tuition center in Singapore! Mr Sim tackle many more topics in a single lesson instead of just focusing on a few which could be very tiresome. It encompasses every type of question the examiner could possibly test and thorough process is given as to how to solve such problems. I would ask my friends to join The Physics cafe, if you want to guarantee an 'A' in physics at A level, you should join :) Gary Ong, NYJC
Lessons with Mr Sim are always very interesting. He is clear in his explanations and trains us exactly how we should approach the different types of questions. He made physics more interesting and less difficult for me. Phaan Yi Lin, RJC
I have learnt lots of technique in answering questions. The difference between here and school is that the school lecturer can be boring at times and may complicate certain concepts while Mr Sim is very clear in telling us the concepts and humorous at times. This, this will not make the lesson boring. Also, Mr sim also engages with the student by asking the students questions which will never happen in school. I will definitely recommend my juniors and friendsto join the physics cafe! Thanks Mr Sim for your teaching! Lim Yi Heng, YJC
Hi Mr Sim. All of your classes are effective and i learned how to accurately answer questions from you so yeah of course i'll recommend my friends to join. I think your approach of asking everyone questions is useful since it keeps everyone engaged. To me, i find it funny when i cannot answer your questions because my attempts are super nonsense. But it helps me to remember better. Your sense of humour is quite good too! so lessons are fun even if they are 3 hours long. Thanks for everything! Oh and the secrets enclosed is very useful. Tay Qing Yuan, ACJC
Dedicated teacher who jolts and awaken students. Lots of quality questions done in class and definitely appreciate the effort Mr Sim Vernon, AJC
I learnt how to tackle A grade questions alot better as Mr Sim taught us many different SOPs; especially for the often out of syllabus data handling questions, I learnt to break down the question and assimilate its ideas and string together new concepts to answer it. The practices that I do in class helps us to digest the relevant concepts and understand them to a deeper level; explanations are very clear and helps me to understand challenging questions. Time trails aids us in managing our time and to complete questions within the time frame, this has helped me a lot since MYEs as I wasn't able to complete the paper then, whereas I could in the prelims. Brendan Chen, MJC
I think the notes The Physics Cafe has made for problem solving are extremely useful. It much better the flipping through my large stack of notes. 10 min of flipping through helps me refresh all my formulas and solving methods and I am ready for a test within 10 minutes. The lesson here is more organized, systematic as compared to that in school. It's faster paced, has good examples and experiments/ diagrams used by Mr Sim to aid our learning, something the school does not use. Lastly, the mind map helps to get hold of the chapter in a gist so absorbing information is less tedious than reading all the lecture material. Lastly the lecturers include too much information that they say is out of syllabus in our notes, making it even more wordy and difficult to understand. Definitely, for anyone who needs help in physics this is the place to go! Mr Sim is a wonderful teacher to learn from and the methods he uses to make us understand physics concepts is unique. I am studying hard, Mr Sim to make my grades a reality, I won't disappoint you! Shingar Aggarwal, TJC
The notes are both concise and informative...win-win situation! Lessons in the physics cafe are more engaging, and all sorts of potential questions or misconceptions, whether big or small, has been answered by the tutor beforehand, making exams much easier to handle! With clarification on all these little details, students like myself have been able to truly understand the concepts behind the physics topics, and also appreciate them in a new way. And yes i would recommend my friends to join the physics café Ng Wan Mai, ACJC
The notes are very concise and great for revision, I think The Physics Cafe have really gave me a good overview of physics and how to tackle the different types of questions with utmost understanding. The difference between The Physics Cafe and the school is that, unlike in school, the contents and concepts of each topics can be effectively taught to us and challenging questions are filtered out to best cater to the needs of students to ace the A levels. I'll definitely recommend the physics cafe to my friends as the experience was a meaningful one. Randall Ang, SAJC
I feel that The Physics Cafe is successful in helping students understand concepts as the tutor ensure that we are exposed to all types of questions and the notes such as The Physics Secret Enclosed is extremely useful in helping students recap certain topics just before the exam. Also, I would like to thank Mr Sim from pushing me all the way from a U before I join till a C today. His patience and guidance definitely make a difference to my grades. I will recommend my friends to join The Physics Cafe! Tan Jing Han, NYJC
The Physics Cafe has been very useful for me! Before joining The Physics Cafe, the thought of doing Physics intimidated me but Mr Sim made solving the toughest of problems rather manageable. He also drilled us on essential concepts and helped us identify possible ways that Cambridge can trick us and all these have definitely improved my problem solving techniques by leaps and bounds. I would definitely recommend my juniors to join. Reetaza, RJC
The Physics Café is very good in teaching complex topics by summarizing the concepts into the notes and mindmaps. Made understanding the concepts a lot easier to grasp and apply. The constant worksheets for revision of the more complex topics were very useful as students got to try and apply their knowledge and ability of the topic once they have been taught it. Especially the grade A questions that gives students the idea of how a grade A question of that topic will be like. Lessons are engaging as Mr Sim will direct questions to students, masking the warring environment more interactive. I will recommend my friends to join! :) Audrey Tang, SAJC
The notes from the physics cafe are really concise and covers all types of exam questions. It helps me to recall the right and most efficient method to solve the question and I am able to reduce my revision time by 75%. In the physics cafe, i also learn to answer qualitative questions with ease and now i am more confident of tackling such questions whenever i see them. I will definitely recommend the physics cafe to all my friends taking the subject. Thanks Mr Sim! Xin Min, PJC
Lessons in The Physics Café have been indeed effective. It helped me to focus more on what the questions are asking and know what are the points the questions are asking for, thus making it easier and more efficient for me to answer the questions. Physics cafe will also pick out certain difficult questions for us to try and make it a point to break down the question so that answering questions will be more systematic. Also skills taught in answering questions were useful and helps in both saving time and getting the mark. Lessons in school did not taught us how to anwers questions to allow us to obtain the maximum mark. Liu Weiting, ACJC
I will always recommend my friends to join physics cafe. In fact, I have recommend my friends to join from the beginning of JC1 because I feel that Physics Cafe has helped me maintain decent grades throughout my entire JC life. I like how Mr Sim gives us time and instruct us on how to decorate our notes and make them colourful. This is especially useful for visual learners like me. I also like how he has made the notes very neat and organized. Mr Sim also ensures that everyone stays alert during his lesson by taking turns to answer questions. Although some of the questions might be challenging at first, he will guide us along by prompting us. Only after much prompting and we still cannot get the correct answer, he will then teach us. This is something different from schools or other tuition centers as most would usually just give the answer instead of making the students think harder. In JC1 when topical MCQs were given, I felt that it was effective in ensuring that we understand our basic concepts, especially with the short and comprehensive worked solutions at the back. At the same time, MCQs are not as time consuming as open-ended questions so that has given us time to focus on our other subjects as well. Physics Cafe has also been flexible in the changing of tuition slots. As there are many time slots available, it is easy to reschedule tuition if say a last minute event pops up. Lynette Ho, ACJC
Hi Mr Sim! I think the physics cafe is quite an interesting tuition centre as it teaches mostly exam answering techniques, in comparison to my school, which focuses mostly on content, which I think is quite useful. Especially with all the "short forms" like NBA and BIL as I'll never forget these formulas haha. I will definitely recommend the physics cafe to my friends since it's very useful and we get good notes/freebies haha. :D Yi Tung, NJC
I feel that the notes are extremely concise and good because it rly helps with the answering skills during the exam. Mr Sim has also really helped to boost the confidence i never had with respect to physics - I haven't been doing well since secondary school. Even though I only joined in June when I was in JC2, The Physics Cafe has helped me in terms of answering questions and strengthening my concepts. It's really different from lessons conducted in school because of the details and skills Mr Sim goes into which has really benefited me. I will definitely recommend my friends to join The Physics Cafe! Kimberly Chew, CJC
Mr Sim is a wonderful teacher who is able to make a three hour lesson go by in a blink of an eye. His lessons are engaging and interesting, and his explanations are concise and easy to understand. The secrets enclosed compilation is very useful for a quick reference, and gives us some assurance. Stay awesome Mr Sim! Anchelski Teo, ACJC
The Physics Cafe's notes were really great, I never looked at my tutorials again. Everything was covered in the graduating booklet. Lessons in The Physics Cafe are far more interesting and easier to pay attention to than in my school. Mr Sim is a great teacher and a dedicated one. Will definitely miss him. Everyone taking physics should go for The Physics Cafe! It's a good way to strengthen concepts and do well for physics. Jason Wong, CJC
I think that the problem solving notes are really helpful as it provides a systematic approach towards the question and allows me to understand the question better. With a better understanding of the question, I can then solve the question unlike the past whereby I failed to understand the hints the question gave. I feel that the time spent in The Physics Cafe allows me to learn the concept more and understand them much clearly as opposed to the lectures that I have always failed to understand in school. Yes I definitely will. Jun Wen, NYJC
I feel that the major difference between the The Physics Cafe and my school is that the Cafe is able guide students towards solving a problem and the concept behind it. Hence, with schools focusing on teaching the syllabus and the Cafe teaching the different types of answering techniques and questions types, the student will be successful and well prepared for his paper. Since I have experienced the effectiveness of the Cafe first hand, I will definitely recommand my friends or juniors to join The Physics Café Tan Yong Siah, NYJC
The way that the notes are compiled are very clear and concise. This is much better than the organisation of the lecture notes in school, which are very lengthy. I think this helped me to organise the topics and content much more clearly, allowing me to have the deeper understanding of each topic and the subject as a whole. Nicolette Tan, RJC
Physics Cafe has been really effective on training me towards answering all types of physics questions by enforcing that I should seek to understand and not memorize and regurgitate content. At the same time, giving us loads of work to practice on really helped me by giving me exposure to all sorts of challenging questions and giving me confidence during exams. Explanations of key concepts and summary of notes were extremely concise and helpful to me as well, unlike thick sets of lecture notes from schools. I will definitely recommend my friends to join The Physics Cafe. Colin Foong, SRJC
The Physics Cafe has helped me better understand Physics with Mr Sim's clear explanation of the concepts and the concise summaries of each topic. Also, I believe that the exposure to different types of questions and knowing the requirements each type of question has guided me to better tackle questions. Sandy Lim, DHS
Effective, clear and concise. Lessons are humorous too with constant interactions between the tutor and students. Yup will recommend Kai Min, DHS
Mr Sim simplifies concepts and even finds shortcuts for us to attempt questions quickly and with great accuracy. He also reinforces important concept that we need to know so that we will remember them better and know which ones to focus on. I'm glad that i joined The Physics Cafe and I’ll definitely recommend it to my friends!! :) Sara Ng Wei, NYJC
Lessons at The Physics Cafe is really enriching! I always learn new answering techniques for every topic, thus I am more fully prepared in the question type of each topic and familiarize with them. The Physics Cafe is unique in its own way as it gives me a much clearer overview of each topic and how they are linked. I am also constantly exposed to new and challenging questions that can test my knowledge and understanding of that topic. Thus, I highly recommend The Physics Cafe to other students, especially when much effort is put into the secrets enclosed booklet and the summary. Mr Dave Sim really put in an extra mile to take care of the welfare of the students and constantly gives us encouragement! Ng Tann Wei, HCI
The Physics Cafe has notes that are far better than my school's as they do not merely gloss over concepts but also show examples to strengthen students' understanding. The notes are also aesthetically pleasing. I feel that ample questions and exam questions are given. Lessons with Physics Cafe are also very enjoyable and interesting as the teacher can be quite humorous too. I would recommend Physics Cafe to my friends! Aw Khai Sheng, RJC
The physics cafe has not only helped me in understanding the physics concepts better, but also gain more interest in the subject. With the summarized mind maps and grade A questions, it makes me more confident in tackling higher ordered questions. After attending the physics cafe, i find it much easier to follow tutorials and lectures in school as I already have a strong foundation from the tuition. I would definitely recommend my friends to join. Charles Lim, HCI
The Physics Cafe has adopted teaching methods that are very conceptual and application based, making sure that students thoroughly understand the topic and know how to apply in to answer questions, including grade A questions. I would prefer such a teaching style as it is more straightforward and to the point so that students know what we need to know about the topic. I would definitely recommend my friends to the Physics Cafe. Jie Xiang, NYJC
Notes given to us are concise and useful. I like the summary behind every chapter that really focus on the important parts of that chapter. The secrets enclosed booklet have also help a lot as that is the booklet where we know all the crucial points to take note of and it has been summarised very neatly. Thank you for helping me understand Physics much better than I ever had. Shiuan Yen, CJC
The Physics Cafe is definitely a tuition centre that I would recommend. Apart from going through concepts, Mr Sim also goes through step-by-step methods to solving questions. This is by far the most effective way I have been taught to solve questions on my own because he breaks difficult questions down into very simple ones, making the thought process easier. Joelle Ho, ACJC
The Physics Cafe has been extremely effective in helping me understand the physics concepts which I didn't in the past. The notes given out are very concise and effective and they help a lot in revision as it shows the main concepts and formulas for all the chapters, and it can be seen that Mr Sim has put in a lot of effort into crafting the notes. Mr Sim has been a very helpful and patient teacher throughout the 1 year I spent at the Physics Cafe and he always seem to be able to make difficult topics a lot more digestable and understandable. The lessons here are much more interactive as compared to the dull and mundane tutorials in school, and it forces one to think instead of waiting for answers, and it is this kind of lessons which helps students improve. This place has made a huge difference in my physics results, and I will definitely recommend the Physics Cafe to my friends. Brandon Chua, RJC
The Physic Cafe has helped me to tackle various exam question in which Mr Dave Sim have trained us to. I am able to better recognized the questions and able to answer the questions in exam better. The Physics Secret Enclosed is definitely of great help where it help us to recognize the questions with reference to the booklet and we know which part of the topic is tested and what are the steps/formula to answer such question. It is very different from the school lectures notes where everything is of whole chunk of information and not summarized.I would recommend my friends to join The Physics Cafe as it had made physics much more enjoyable and bearable subject. Yap Jia Ji, MJC
The Physics Cafe is highly effective and helps to minimise revision time on Physics, and redirect time for other subjects. Unlike the teaching method in school, The Physics Cafe helps to distill the salient concepts and build a strong foundation by unpacking and application of key knowledge. Not only does it help to improve grades, but can also make you grow to love Physics! Hee Yu Ning, RVHS
From a range of 1 to 10, with 1 and 10 being successful and extremely successful respectively, I would rate a 10. Concepts are explained to us more clearly in the centre, while tutors in the school often skip some important concepts and expect us to 'think about them ourselves' without providing any hints or how to approach such concepts. The skills of problem-solving have also been imparted to us quite clearly, which is also one area in which our school lacks in providing. Overall, though it was a short 2-3 months, I find it to be a joyous ride and I would definitely recommend Physics Cafe to my juniors. Daniel Leong, NYJC
The Physics Cafe has definitely helped me a lot in mastering and understanding physics concepts more easily. The concise notes and Grade A questions designed by Mr Dave were great and they were really great companions throughout the journey to A-levels! Simpler, clear-cut methods to solve difficult questions were taught in lessons and it was really helpful. Mr Dave is also a very patient and hardworking teacher, always willing to lend a helping hand and try his best to explain the solution to us in the shortest way possible and this has helped me reduce time spent on solving many questions! Thank you Mr Dave! Terence Lim, RVHS
I got an A for my physics A- levels and I was very happy as I have never gotten an A before. I would say The Physics Cafe played an important role in helping me in my understanding of the subject and also prepared me well by strengthening my foundation and exposing me to many different types of questions. With all the material provided and explanations by Mr Sim I was able to compile a notebook of my own which also consisted of notes provided by the school, which really helped me understand the subject better. I will definitely recommend The Physics cafe to my friends and the lessons here were really quite enjoyable. Jeanette Leong, SAJC
I scored an A for my Physics in A-level and I was extremely delighted as I know it isn't easy to get an A for physics. The Physics Cafe definitely geared me towards truly understanding physics and not just blindly solving questions like I used to. Weekly sessions and intensive revisions towards exams really reinforced key concepts essential to me to tackle the A-levels. I would definitely recommend my friends to join The Physics Cafe! Colin Foong, SRJC
I got an A for physics A level paper. This years physics paper was relatively easier compared to the other years hence i was quite confident of getting an A. However the easier paper also meant that other students who were not as strong in physics would score better as well hence there was a little bit uneasy when i was getting my results. I feel very relieved and happy at the same time to be getting the A for A levels. The physics cafe definitely made a difference as it allowed me to grasp my concepts better and apply them frequently until it became almost second nature to me. The many mock papers given to me also allowed me to practice good time management for the paper and allowed me to plan my time well in the exam. I will definitely recommend all friends to attend the physics cafe as it will definitely make a difference to your physics grades. Hew Yan Chong, RVHS
It's really helpful because Mr Sim actually teaches you the methods to solve the various problems. Of course you still have to practice on your own, but knowing the different procedures to tackle different questions helps out A LOT. This really sets the physics cafe apart because in school, the teachers expect you to know everything maybe because of the tutorial lecture system. They expect you to already know how to solve the questions at a snap of the finger and expect you to deliver pristinely done tutorials. They don't go down to the nitty gritty. Therefore, I will totally recommend the physics cafe to anyone who wants to have a better understanding of the answering techniques! Wyatt Oh, RJC
The Physics Cafe has definitely made physics seemed a lot more comprehensive and easier. With those booklets that summarize each topic, it has definitely made it easier for students to refer back to the booklet which has everything that the student should know of that topic. Not only that, Mr Sim also ensures that his lectures are easily understood by everyone in the class. He is very patient in clarifying any doubts we have. I would definitely recommend my friends to join The Physics Cafe. Lim Li Luan, RVHS
The notes The Physics Cafe had prepared for each student comes in a form of booklet which had concise summary for each topic and ways to approach questions that could be set with the topics. That booklet is definitely useful and integral in my revision for my Physics examinations. In addition, Mr Sim is passionate about what he is teaching and enable the more complex Physics topics to be understood easily by the students. He just somehow is able to align our thoughts towards the different topics, and this is something which my school teachers rarely do so. I would definitely recommend my friends to join The Physics Cafe! For friends who are relatively weak or strong in Physics alike, I would still recommend them to attend The Physics Cafe classes because the classes certainly would help to align our thoughts in a certain way towards Physics. Lim Yu Han, HCI
I got the A….I felt that I did really well, especially for the planning question. The Physics Cafe helped me understand the topics in depth, not just surface learning, and to take control of situations where I would have normally panicked, and answer really odd questions by keeping calm and remember that whatever they test, we have already learnt them. We have to just look from a different angle and tackle the challenging questions from another point of view Brendan Chen, MJC
I am very grateful to Mr Sim for helping me get my A for Physics at the A levels. I hated Physics in J1 because the abstract ideas and concepts made no sense to me at all. But Mr Sim not only made Physics accessible to all of us through his amazing teaching, I was suddenly able to grasp key concepts better and do questions with astonishing ease and speed! The regular topical recaps, practice questions that ranged in difficulty and timed practices during Physics Cafe lessons were definitely a blessing. It is thanks to Mr Sim's teaching that I was also able to develop an passion for the subject over time and that is why I have chosen to do engineering in university. If you are struggling with Physics, I would definitely recommend The Physics Cafe because Mr Sim makes the once seemingly insurmountable challenge called Physics a breeze (: Reetaza Chatterjee RJC
The best tuition centre I've ever joined :D Mr Sim helped me to understand Physics much, much better, and the grades kind of speak for themselves. During my 'O' Levels I managed a A2 for my Physics out of pure memorization of questions, and I didn't get it at all.Definitely didn't help in JC! I am extremely thankful that I got to know Mr Sim. He's clear and enthusiastic in his teaching and explains it in more simplistic ways to aid understanding. He helped me to improve my understanding of Physics, and also helped me enjoy studying it much more. I would recommend all my friends who need help in Physics and don't like it to join :D Hahaha, because Mr Sim is just that awesome.YAY PHYSICS CAFE FREE DRINKS FREE BISCUITS(^^) Joanna, AJC
Mr Dave Sim is an amazing physics teacher who is able to explain Physics theories and concepts in ways that we were able to easily understand. His physics notes were useful, especially the summary booklet we received during the June workshop. They were clear, concise and most importantly, have the most essential concepts and answering techniques for each topic summarized in A5 booklets which came in really handy. Mr Sim also has his way of encouraging his students to do better and was always sending us emails and texts to motivate us. I've always been bad at Physics especially since the start of my J2 year. After joining the physics tuition class in May, I saw myself improving gradually over the months and surprisingly also found myself developing an interest in the subject ( I really used to hate Physics!). All in all I'm really thankful to have had Mr Sim as my Physics tutor and if I were to choose again, The Physics cafe would still be my choice. (: Lee Xinyi, SAJC
HELLO MR SIM!!! here's a tribute to you! You're seriously, seriously the most awesomest coolest physics teacher I ever had. After you took over I never skipped a single day where there was physics cos every lesson was really really important and helped me a lot. I think you were meant to be a teacher all along: you have the seemingly effortless gift of making students understand concepts even though you sound like you're just teaching normally most of the time. So I guess it's good you stopped being an engineer in the field of p and n type objects and depleted layers. And you have no temper at all haha, and I'm really grateful for the amount of patience you have when teaching my class. And of course, there's those insanely amusing and funny times you shared with my class. I swear I've never laughed so much or been so happy in a freaking lesson before (of course GP is the exception but that's cos I'm biased towards GP) I think i'll miss physics lessons a lot. haha. Happy teachers' day! (albeit a rather belated one) It's because of teachers like you that I finally see how important teachers are. I do think your learning I'm pretty sure this batch will help spread this reputation too. Mingmei, RJC
Mr Dave Sim is quite simply, the best Physics teacher that I have ever had in the past 18 years of my life! The key feature distinguishing Mr Sim from the rest of the physics teachers that I have been exposed to is the unique personal connection that he develops with his students. His heart and soul for teaching translates into improved results and passion from his students, and his unique ability to understand a student's needs complements his incredible explanation and teaching skills. He is not your ordinary run of the mill teacher, he is an inspiring person who can actually teach Physics. He has made Physics an interesting and enjoyable subject and I have never felt such excitement going for Physics lessons which are both enjoyable and productive, something which is indeed difficult to find in teachers. No regrets! :) John Yu, RJC
I absolutely loved the notes that were given. It really helps that all the most essential and useful concepts are condensed into concise pages of notes that made revision very convenient, quick, and easy. Mr Sim always encourages us to keep adding on to the mind map whenever we learn something important. The lessons at the Physics Cafe are more exam-oriented and always seek to improve our speed and accuracy in answering exam questions. This helps ensure that we're as ready as we can for examinations. Concepts and topics are also very concisely (and often humourously) delivered as opposed to long and dragged-out lectures, which makes learning and revision fun. I will certainly recommend my friends to the center! Thank you very much Mr Sim! May, RJC
Before attending physics tuition at The Physics Cafe, I was actually totally clueless to how I could revise my H2 physics topics and what to actually pay attention to for each individual topic. Instead, I chose to cram my school lecture notes as much possible to clear my Physics exam. But after attending Mr Dave Sim's lesson, I found the mind map on the last page of the notes extremely useful in providing quick and instant recollection of my Physics concepts. In addition, after being taught color coding methods by Mr Sim to do our notes, I found Physics easier to revise than before. I would definitely recommend Physics Cafe to all students :) Noel Png Jia Hao, YJC
The physics notes are good and simple. They are so simple that me, as a Physics student, I only need 10 minutes to revise for each topic that is covered in the syllabus. Mr Sim explains concepts and uses analogies so well that concepts that seemed alien in school will be cleared up by the end of the session. I would totally recommend my friends that are taking Physics of any level to come and join TPC as I am sure that they will improve continuously under the guidance of Mr Sim. Jonathan Lim, SRJC
Topical mind maps were really useful in remembering the essential formulas and explanation for certain phenomenons. Lesson in The Physics Cafe is more enriching and allows students to have a clearer understanding of the subject through problem solving. Lee Meiqi, ACJC
Mr Sim is a dedicated physics teacher and he takes time to make sure that students understand each and every topic clearly. He makes sure that students understand not just the concept behind physics, but also teaches us examination skills so that we can score in the Physics exams. Furthermore he is more than willing to answer any enquiries and clear any misunderstandings. students well, adding sometimes humour to his lessons which make them more refreshing. Law Hong Shing, RJC
I got to know about The Physics Cafe and enrolled in it when I was in J1. From the start, Mr Dave Sim really helped to clear the conceptual errors I had in Physics and thus made the learning and solving problems a lot easier. His teaching style also made lessons more interesting and engaging. Mr.Sim is very approachable when we have any questions or queries and almost always stays back after the lesson to help us with our problems. I would definitely recommend new junior college students to come to The Physics Cafe! Sakif, VJC
I think that the different mind maps of key concepts for each chapter was really important to help us to take note of what are the ways a certain concept might be tested in problem solving. Furthermore, the answering techniques taught also help us to better answer the question even when we are not really sure of the answer. The lessons in school teach physics but the lessons in the physics cafe help us to know what are the important concepts for each chapter, how to be exam smart, and how to answer the questions asked. Gong Wei Zhen, TJC
The lessons provided are extremely well structured and organized, with the concepts demarcated into the various concepts with much clarity. The emphasis on exam answering techniques also ensures that I was able to handle full papers as I was used to problem solving. Mr Sim is also very caring and willing to take any questions, even after lessons. I would definitely recommend The Physics Cafe to my friends. Thanks Mr Sim! Marcus Chiang, RJC
The emphasis placed on exam answering techniques is extremely apt and good, and has helped me alot in tackling questions accurately and swiftly. Lessons at Physics Cafe are more structured and well planned as compared to other tuition centres. Thank you Sir, I will certainly recommend my RI juniors to you! Low Si Rong, RJC
The problem solving techniques taught are very concise and effective in solving problems as it allows students to logically tackle problem. Lessons in the cafe are much more focused and give room for critical thinking (which is sorely absent in most school lectures) especially with all the grade A questions we have become so obsessed with! Shaun Tan, ACJC
Mr Dave Sim teaches in a very fun, engaging and inspiring way. I will somehow feel the strong urge and passion for learning during and after his lessons. Wonder if others do feel that way too.! Low Yong Han, AJC
I used to fail physics and hate physics. During everyday exams regardless if it is a major or minor one, physics is the last subject I want to study. After attending physics cafe, I no longer dread revising for physics. Putting my school notes aside, i only have to rely on mr sim's notes and practice papers. I can still remember that I passed my physics for the very first time And finally reached the average score in my school! And that is the very first step to good results! Toh Zi Qian, RVHS
It's been a very VERY fun year in the physics cafe, and Mr Sim is one of the best tutors I have met. His enthusiasm for teaching physics and helping students is hard to match, and his notes, provided in the form of small, easy-to-digest booklets, are comprehensive in terms of summarising what is important. He also provides many questions for practice - important in a subject where application is key, and school tutorials can be somewhat limited in terms of practice. I really have to thank Mr Sim for helping me to improve in physics, and I highly recommend the Physics Cafe to anyone who is struggling in the subject, or who simply find it difficult to grasp concepts. Tan Wei Zheng Daniel, RJC
I enjoy lessons at the physics cafe. To me, the way physics was taught here was very easy to understand and apply. It gave me a better understanding of the subject and equipped me with skills to approach different questions types. Having put in my best effort to complete the many practice questions prepared for us, I saw a great improvement in my grades(: I'm really thankful! Chia Pei Qi, RJC
The Physics cafe allows us to understand the difficult contents quickly as compared to school lessons which is rather slow and draggy. The June holiday package really helps in us understanding all the topics to be covered (hope that the lessons are longer or more lessons conducted though). I would definitely recommend my juniors to come to physics cafe.! Li Qi, RVHS
Upon starting Physics in Junior College, I was unable to fully comprehend the fundamental concepts that were taught in the beginning. As a result, it caused my understanding of Physics to be weakened substantially as the following topics were built upon these fundamental concepts and ideas. However, Mr Sim was able to teach these basic yet intriguing topics with ease. His grasp and passion for the subject showed through when he was able to answer each and every one of our questions in detail while most teachers avoided and ignored them. Moreover, his constant SMSes reminded us of the hard work we had to put in. Overall, the Physics Cafe has been able to summarize the important points of each topic in point form. This complemented Mr Sim's detailed explanation in class, and together with the ample practices that were given, the Physics Cafe is the whole package for JC Physics. Lim Shi Wei, RJC
Lessons in physics cafe are more concise and teaches us the important concepts needed for exams in a direct way, unlike in schools where lectures can be boring and draggy :/ students struggling in physics should join mr sim's class as you will really improve your grades! :) Tiffany, AJC
Physics used to be a subject that I fared poorly in. The Physics Cafe has helped me understand and apply the various Physics concepts that I previously could not grasp. Also, Mr Sim's concise notes are more than enough for any student to revise just before his exams and ace the paper! The Physics Cafe is truly my grade saver, and I hope with hardwork and Mr Sim's guidance, it will be yours too! (: Chandini Manoharan, AJC
Mr Sim is able to come up with concise concepts for physics, by summarizing the important parts of every topic. His elaboration for every topic is clear and even when we do not get it the first time round, he is very friendly and approachable and never fails to ensure that his concept is brought across to us as clear as possible. He also emphasizes on exam skills to train us essentially for the A level examination. His tuition centre is very conducive for learning and he pays attention to every student's needs as much as he can. Ng Woon Aik, SAJC
Mr Sim's physics lessons are always insightful, clear and easy to understand. He knows how to teach the different topics in the simplest manner and package the content as small bite size portions for us to digest in class. His painstaking teachings and the effort he takes to go through each assignment as clearly as possible is very effective in identifying our common mistakes and our misconceptions. Overall, Mr Sim is an excellent teacher and I will recommend my juniors to The Physics Cafe. James Onggo, NJC
Mr sim has really helped me tremendously with my physics! Before attending the tuition I was barely keeping up with the lessons in school. Sometimes it feels like "enlightenment". The mindmap Mr Sim went through with us is the best thing a Physics student could ever ask for! It is definitely a tremendous help in my revision. Thank You very much Mr Sim! Ho Yu Tian, AJC
I highly recommend Mr.Sim simply because Physics is made as easy as ABC in every sense of the phrase, he will enlighten you on what is the underlying concept behind the concept that you learn in school he explains how certain formulaes are derived from with the pure basics and at a pace that anyone may understand so listen up people! Anyone who wants to do well in physics yet they can't do it on their own, find Mr.Sim and he will ensure that you get the basics right and have the foundation to tackle the harder, more complex concepts of physics. All hail Lord Dave! Tan Ying Hong, CJC
I started out as a student who hated physics simply because i had no interest in it and because i couldn't do well no matter what and how i tried but my opinion starting to change gradually as i attended lessons here. Physics lessons became interesting to me and slowly i was able to grasp the techniques and concepts. Mr sim is really an excellent teacher who never fails to break down something so complicated into simpler things that i can understand. Thank you! :) Liu jiahuan, VJC
Mr Dave Sim is the best physics teacher in the world I promise you!! He makes physics so exciting with all his secret teaching techniques and yes I definitely will recommend The Physics Cafe to everybody Tomio, PJC
Mr Sim has really helped me for physics for the A levels H2 Physics. Though I've only attended his lessons from April JC2, he taught me almost everything I knew about physics. I've learned more in the few months leading up to the A levels than the two years in school. I would really like to thank him for salvaging my physics, and I truly hope I can share the good news with him when I get my results. Samson Chan, JJC
Mr Sim is an excellent tutor who explains Physics concepts in a clear (and humorous) manner, which makes it easier to remember. Lessons focus on exam skills yet do not depend on pure memorisation just for the exam. The notes are simple, clear, no-fuss, yet tell you everything you need to know!
I would definitely recommend anyone to join The Physics Cafe, whether you're struggling with Physics or just getting by, or feel that you just need constant practice and clarification! Trina Ling, RJC
He can explain the concepts using 'common sense' words. He gives good analogies (this is VERY IMPORTANT to me!) (e.g. explaining the concept of COE and DC using 'eating dinner', 'climbing an obstacle', 'having less energy' and so on.) Zachary Teo, RJC
Mr Sim, you were great! I started attending your Physics tuition halfway through JC as I couldn't understand anything about physics. In fact I was the last position in class as of JC1 end of years for physics. After attending your tution, I've really understood every topic very well that now my classmates would just ask me for assistance for physics, a complete 360 degree turn compared to last year. Thanks! Adriel Low RVHS
Mr. Sim teaches in the most systematic and easiest ways to inspire his students' interests for Physics. He teaches with passion. He shows this passion with his gestures, voices and great consistency and this motivates the students to work hard and concentrate in the class. He learly illustrates what A level and all other Physics exams are about and breaks them down for students to handle part by part, which not many other teachers are willing to do so. Shi Ruitao RJC
Mr Sim, I would definitely recommend my friends to join the physics cafe. The Physics Cafe made me interested in physics again due to Mr Sim's enthusiastic and clear teaching. Finally physics made sense. The lecture notes are also very useful as they are not just summarized but include tough questions that might potentially come up for school exams and ultimately A levels. At the same time, the occasional small tests motivated me and trained me to be more calm and focused in exams. A skill which I felt was of utmost importance in exams. Ultimately I felt that the physics cafe really helped me a lot in my learning of physics. Nicholas Sim, HCI
It is very different from the school lectures notes where everything is of whole chunk of information and not summarized. I would recommend my friends to join The Physics Cafe as it had made physics much more enjoyable and bearable subject. Yap Jia Ji, MJC
Mr Sim's notes are straight to the point and serves as a concise form of lecture notes, making it easy to revise for tests and exams.
He is very approachable and i wouldn't hesitate to ask him any physics question in class! Yun Feng, ACJC
Mr Sim's notes and teachings are really easy to understand and learn. :) They build the perfect foundation for your Physics syllabus. All you need is a little effort on your part and the A should be yours. I came to this tuition with a U grade and only 5 months to the A levels. Mr Sim has helped me get an A for physics which is nothing short of a miracle! :p You'd want to have Mr Dave Sim as your Physics tutor, because really, he is an awesome teacher. Not only because of how capable he is, but because he truly has a heart for his students. I wouldn't have conquered survived Physics without his help. Thank you so much Sir! :D Jia Jun, ACJC
Mr. Sim is an excellent teacher in every aspect of teaching especially once I have tried to listen and pay attention during lesson. He is the one that made me understood what I couldn't for the past two years, PHYSICS. If you ask any of the students from 6V I'm very sure they would say that they couldn't understand a thing when they see the tutorial but when Mr. Sim discussed it during physics period, it is all easily understood, even the challenging questions are easily understood when he is explaining it. Strive on to be the best teacher sir! thank you for the precious time=) Dustin, RJC
Mr Sim’s Physics notes are not too wordy, and more comprehensive compared to lecture notes. He is a very patient teacher, and does not mind re-explaining the concepts to those who have doubts. He puts in extra time and effort to make sure his students understand a particular concept or topic. Good luck on setting up your own Physics Learning Center sir!!! Zou Yang, RJC
Physics Cafe was a tremendous help to me. The notes that they provide are short, concise and easy to understand. It allowed me to understand better and rely less on memorising. Mr Sim's explanation is also very clear and easy to understand. It often cleared my misunderstandings and doubts that arose when learning similar topics in school. The Physics Cafe is a must, especially for those who want to secure an A for physics. Lim Hao Zhi Joshua, VJC
Mr sim is able to explain the different concepts in a succinct manner such that students are able to grasp it very easily and he enables the students to apply the different concepts for different questions. He is also able to use analogies to explain difficult concepts. His notes are concise and comprehensive at the same time. Most importantly, he teach us very well, with great enthusiasm and passion! Shiyuan, RJC
He exudes charisma and is able to engage the students in all of the class discussions. Physics was made graspable with his unique yet effective methods of illuminating concepts with either mind maps or interactive media applications. He is indeed an amazing teacher who inspires and motivates students to achieve the best that they can. Julian Tay, RJC
The best aspect about Mr Dave Sim, is that he is a caring and concerned tutor. Always looking for ways to improve his teaching, he has inspired me to learn physics at a higher level in university. Always helping us out when we need, and joking with us often, learning under him was a pleasure. Besides physics, he taught us magic. I was touched by his love for magic, physics and teachin. thank you sir. i really looked up to you as a role model. wish you all the best in your dream job, but the future rj students are just unlucky if u decided to quit rj. Senthil, RJC
Mr Sim, you seriously make the syllabus content more understandable and clear! Mr. Sim, your passion and dedication to see students improve is what separates you from other teachers. The notes that characterize your lessons are very concise and updated; they are extremely useful when doing revision. They reflect that passion you have :) Thank you Mr Sim David Lee, RJC
I think Mr Sim's notes are extremely concise and to the point. They highlight the most important parts of each chapter, and sieve out the redundant information. His notes also provides many examples which allows me to get familiar with using whatever knowledge i have learned straight away, so that i will remember it better. His lessons are always interesting, and he knows how to joke from time to time. His teaching method is very heavily oriented towards making you score well for physics, and though he does not usually talk much about the story of the theory, he produces results. Also, his lessons are well prepared and his use of animations and applets to help me learn are very appropriate. All in all, he is the one of the best, if not THE best physics teachers i have ever known. Chien Ming, RJC
Although I was initially skeptical whether a new teacher would be beneficial for me, Mr Sim has transformed my outlook for physics and have made once intimidating questions look surprisingly easily. His clear explanation of the concepts allowed me grasp the fundamentals of the subject, and apply them to many problems, even the challenging ones.
Mr Sim has provided me with the platform to succeed in this field of sciences, and have inspired me to pursue physics at a higher level. benkhoo, RJC
Both you and the notes are clear and concise. and the analogies u used seem to fit well lol! Liangxu, RJC
He explains everything clearly and slowly for all of us to understand and he will not hesitate to answer all of our queries, even if it isnt in the syllabus. HES THE BEST PHYSICS TEACHER! =D The notes are short and sweet. and the summaries are definitely helpful too. thanks:) Alloysius, RJC
I started A'level Physics with some love for the subject, but it soon disappeared as I found the syllabus very hard to comprehend. Often, I was clueless about problem-solving techniques, and this showed in my dismal marks. However, with Mr Sim's help, I have made steady improvment in Physics, and now have started to enjoy it. It is very rare to find a dedicated teacher who is not only knowledgable, but who can also put across ideas effectively. Mr Sim has, with his succinct notes and engaging teaching style, the wonderful ability to share his passion for and knowledge of Physics with his students. I am very glad and count myself lucky to have had Mr Sim as my teacher in JC2! Thank you Mr Sim! Indera, RJC
Mr Sim's notes are succint and to the point. They are very logical and allow you to not just memorise the equations, but help you to understand the reasoning and derivations of all physics formulas. He teaches through understanding and logical deduction, not by spoon feeding of forcing equations down your throat. Annoymous, RJC
Mr Sim has a very unique way of teaching, thoroughly going through the topic again and drillling his students with questions. Not only do you provide us with your notes, but also provide us with simple explanation and technique for problm solving that make every question seem so easy. Nevertheless, you are one of the most dedicated teacher i have seen in my jc life. Thanks Mr Sim for all the help:) Annoymous, RJC
Your way of explaining the concepts are very clear and interesting. For example, the 'home' and 'hanging around' analogy you gave for holes and electrons is super interesting and easy to remember. For the notes, they are highly self-explanatory. It is important (at least for me) to understand the rationale behind each observation which the school notes fail to do so sometime (or maybe the school notes is too wordy to understand=D).
I trust you have the ability to be a wonderful physics tutor both in school and outside school. And I am so glad to see the opening of you physics learning center soon. I am willing to help out in your center if you need me in any way as it is also my dream to teach and apply physics in the future. Best Regards, Zou Yang, RJC
Mr Sim is a great teacher who was able to help me regain my confidence in physics after 5 years of mediocre results and poor conceptual understanding. Annoymous, RJC
Hi Mr Sim, I'm from the class of 2011. Though I haven't taken my A Levels and gotten the A like many of your past students, and barely even had 3 months of Physics lessons in RJC, thanks for making the Kinematics module so fun & easy to understand. Your lectures were really the most enjoyable ones so far. =) I love your "stories" & the sms-quiz, and I think your explanations and slides are extremely clear and concise. If not for you leaving RI, I think we'd all be more than happy to have you as our Physics lecturer for the rest of the year! Annoymous, RI (JC), (2009-2010)
Very organised-each topic is carefully segregated into the different concepts and you explain it very throughly with the many types of qns that can possibly come up in an exam. I like the tecnhiques you taught us such as the step-by-step procedure. It's very helpful in solving qns. Cassandra, AJC
Physics finally makes sense (:
The notes are comprehensive, and summarised, with all the basics you need to know, and questions that serve to strengthen knowledge of basic concepts. Also questions are organised in such a way that students that we are able to see a pattern to tackle the different kinds of questions, and the concepts that are commonly tested. The best part about the teaching is that complicated physics jargon isn't used to explain already complicated physics concepts. Mr Sim uses simple terms to explain the seemingly complicated concepts and even answers complicated questions simply so that we understand. In short, he creates the 'Ohhhhhh..' effect, where through his explanation, something we thought was very difficult suddenly becomes so much clearer, making us go 'Ohhhhh..' Vaynii, NJC
I am sorry i just found that there is such a forum here to say something to you and your teaching as well. Frankly speaking, it's my great fortune to have u as my physics tutor in rjc. I heard many other friends' comments about their tutors. U make me feel that u are the best. Responsiblility, sense of humor, and concise, simple way of teaching, i have to say i have never met any teacher who can make me feel that. You can always teach us with the views of students, but not teachers. Many teachers cannot reach that because they never understand where the students' difficulties are. Of course, besides teaching us physics concepts, u teach us many other things as well, such as socialising, values and attitude...Best of luck to u and ur funny but useful website. Thank you for your teaching. Yuan Bo, RJC
Hello Mr Sim,
I benefited greatly from your notes of Kinematics and Overview of Jc1 Topics. It is really kind of you to upload notes for free. Your 44 page notes of kinematics have benefited me more than all the internet articles i have read for past 1 and half year.I would like to request for Superposition and Overview of Jc 2 Topics.I would love to write a short testimonial for you. Lex RJC
Dear Mr Sim,
Thank you so much for all your help and guidance throughout the past 2 years. I really enjoyed your tutorials that were always peppered with humour. You really made learning physics fun and less stressful. I am sincerely grateful to have you as my CT. Thank you once again, and all the best :) Xinni, RJC
Hi Mr Sim,
Here is Yaohua, Hope you still remember me. I am from 6O. Thank you for your effort in writing all the testimonial for me. I have decided to go to University of Waterloo, Canada to study acturial science. This is the school that I want to go most because I can study acturial science as a degree. I will also continue to love physics. :)Hope you will have a batch less naughty but much smarter than us. Zhou Yaohua, RJC, (2007-2008)
Hello Mr Sim!
Thank you for your guidance for the past 2 years. You have been a fabulous teacher! :) Couldn't have gotten my A without you. All the best with the Physics Cafe! Wanxi, RJC
Just wanted to say thank you-thank you - thank you so much for the help and guidance that you have given me! without it, i don't think it would have been possible for me to get an 'A' for A levels. You make the lessons more enjoyable and physics more interesting :) haha. sorry for all the trouble I gave you, including not doing some of the tutorials, talking in class etc. to express my gratitude, i shall spread a word around regarding thephysicscafe.com. Hope you continue teaching with a passion! Ching Minsi, RJC
I think Mr Sim’s someone you’d have to get to know on a much more personal level to understand, because I think there’s much more to him than he shows to his class most of the times. He’s occasionally self-deprecating, which makes for a wonderful teacher to have, and his teaching methods are very effective. His notes are concise and to the point, which really helps in digesting and identifying the essentials of each topic. Personally I’d say he’s the best physics tutor in RJC (but yeah my grades don’t really reflect it (yet)). Darryl, RJC
I progressed from struggling with Physics last year (and hating the subject) to understanding Physics and being able to apply the concepts and steps that Mr Sim taught me so. I was lucky to have Mr Sim as my Physics tutor. Currently doing the IB diploma & got a grade 7 (highest grade in IB) in Physics in my recent prelims! Now Physics is my most favourite subject. Mr Sim made it possible by explaining to me in a step-by-step process and exactly how to apply what I learn to questions. Mr Sim is one of the best Physics teachers in the world! He does not dismiss your questions no matter how insignificant - and makes sure you understand all the concepts. He is one of a kind - dedicated to teaching & committed to making sure you do well. Thanks!!!! Joan, ACSI
Mr Sim never fails to capture the attention of the class with his innovative and interesting methods of teaching, keeping the class spontaneous by facilitating discussions with fresh ideas. With such a large number of students in his class, getting to know the majority would be no mean feat but he goes the extra mile to understand everyone, going even further by designing notes that are comprehensive, catering for the needs of his students. For all his hardwork, he has earned my utmost respect as a caring teacher for the past 2 years. Nicholas, RJC
Mr Sim is a dedicated educator and a passionate physics teacher. He is extremely willing to help his students as evident from the setting up of his website. He does well in providing comprehensive explanations of physics concepts, allowing his students to grasp these concepts easily. He also tries to make most of his lessons interesting.. Caroline, RJC
Mr. Sim is an earnest teacher who sincerely wants to help his students achieve better grades and understand physics better. He is able to clearly articulate and explain physics concepts that are often complicated and abstract. This had made learning physics in his class enjoyable, and made the study of physics less daunting. Also, his notes are systematic and well-planned, and deliver the few important concepts that one needs to know for a particular topic in a clear and concise format. Xinni, RJC
I feel that the physics notes you gave to us is superb, so much so that many from other classes have asked for it too. The summarised physics notes are concise and to-the-point, cutting short all the ‘long stories’ in the lecture notes. It is easily comprehensible and very systematic, making it very clear for the reader to know exactly what is going on. (On a side note, I feel that you should publish a A-level physics book compiling all your notes as I believe they will be in hot demand and will likely provide relief and soothe the anxiety of many other potential physics students in the years to come.) All in all, I feel that you are one of the best physics teachers I have encountered so far, as you genuinely cared for us and have tried to stimulate our interest in the subject. Without you, I guess my physics concepts will still be muzzled up. You helped to clarify and clear all the misconceptions that I previously had. I would like to sincerely thank you for being such a dedicated teacher. Thank you Mr Sim! Qi Han, RJC
Mr Sim is able to present important, and sometimes very complicated, physics concepts to students in a very comprehensible way. His notes summarizing the key understandings of each chapter are especially useful, as they are concise and accurate. In addition, he delivers his lessons with much clarity, and even injects elements of humour and allows us students to digest information taught easily. Sherie, RJC
Mr Sim is a very dedicated physics teacher with an unique approach to teaching Physics, geared towards ensuring that his students understand difficult Physics concepts and score well for Physics. Right from the first lesson, he has given us the broad strategy for tackling exams questions as well as tips to learn Physics well. In the summarised physics notes that he types for his students, he is able to encapsulate the essence of each topic amidst succinct yet comprehensive explanation of concepts. In addition, whenever appropriate, he provides derivations to make his students’ learning more complete. That said, it should be noted that he does not ‘spoon-feed’ his students, because he constantly reminds them to write their own notes based on their understanding of each topic. Furthermore, in his classroom and lecture teaching, he goes the extra mile to find or create suitable applets and animations to aid students’ understanding in physics concepts, which goes to show his commitment to teaching. All in all, Mr Sim has been an excellent physics teacher with the ability to inspire and motivate.. Charlotte, RJC
Mr Sim’s popular physics notes are concise and comprehensive. He never fails to break down a chapter into different key concepts and ideas, making it easier for us to understand. Even a particularly difficult chapter will seem manageable and much less intimidating. He would even classify questions into different types where you would use the same type of calculations for. This simplifies things and makes it easier to tackle questions in an exam. I particularly like his idea of using a “SOP” to solve physics questions. Soo Lin, RJC
Mr Sim is respectable, responsible and enthusiastic physics teacher. He teaches us with extreme patience and this can be reflected when he explains to us the physics concept again and again until all of us understand. While repeating the concept, he never makes me bored as he explains it in different ways and sometimes teaches us through games. He really enjoys teaching, not only regards it as a job. He tries his best to prepare us for all the exams and tests and but never fails to encourage us even when we do not do well. No matter what kind of students we, most of us are moved and motivated by his passion for physics and teaching.
In facilitating our understanding, he prepares overviews which summarize all the key physics concepts for us. This is actually very useful for us in preparing for the exams. It is concise and whole-rounded. By learning by the key concepts, it is easier for us to remember all the important things. Yao Hua, RJC
It has been such a great joy having you as a physics tutor. I can frankly say, I have never had as much fun in class as I had during physics. All your jokes (whether they were funny or not :P) just made the class atmosphere so much more relaxed and every lesson was such a joy to be a part of. Your whole teaching style and ability to interact with and reach out to us students is just phenomenal, and you have taught us how fun and extremely enjoyable studying may be. Your templates and approaches have also made studying physics so much easier for us, and you have taught us how it is not too difficult to understand this subject after all. The great amount of time you have put into creating notes for us students and helping us in every way possible has been so heart warming to see, and I am sure everyone will agree with me in thanking you for all your effort and be eternally grateful to you. There are only a few teachers who create such an impact with their extreme passion to teach and their great concern for their students' well being. You are definitely one of them. Your tolerance in aiding those who were not able to catch the concepts so fast, and your ability to make the class more enjoyable yet maintain the learning environment is something I will never forget, and will most certainly try to learn. And once again, thank you very much for being such a passionate, student-concerned, thoughtful, and just absolutely great teacher. =) enjoy your holss! Ganesh, RJC
Really hope that you've had a fun holiday in December (without 6E). All the best for 2007 and hope you have fun with kids in your new civics class^_^Just a few days ago I heard from Cambridge that they gave me a conditional offer(3 As, no S paper) to study at Magdalene College . I know better than anybody else that without the life-saving As in Physics I could never have made it. Thank you for all the interesting lessons that salvaged my remaining interest in Physics^_^ Last thing - if you ever come to China, muz come and find us! Linlin and me will be so happy to see you in Suzhou! Gao Fan, RJC
Hi Mr Sim,
Your physics tutorials are very useful, so useful that I don’t bother to pay attention in lectures. Haha. You stress concepts with much clarity in an easily understood way, and some of the tips you gave are very useful in exams. ^^ Many of my friends and I feel you’re the best physics teachers in RJC! Gao Fan, RJC
Mr Sim is a dedicated and meticulous teacher who has the welfare of his students at heart. He is a caring and approachable teacher, whose sense of humour has made him more of a friend to his students. Jiaqi, RJC
Mr Dave Sim is a very responsible physics tutor. Besides lecture notes, he has also prepared his own notes for all the chapters which are more comprehensive and knowledgeable. His teaching is very interesting and can be easily understood by everyone. His students like to discuss questions with him in class and even during lunch time. Lupeng, RJC
Mr. Sim is always able to explain the concepts thoroughly, patiently and clearly to the benefit of the whole class. His simple and direct procedures towards the concepts enable us to grasp them quickly and remember them. His notes are concise and easy to understand, making them efficient resources especially as there are so many topics to cover. Juan, RJC
Mr Sim has been a very dedicated teacher as seen from his patience in class. He is always ready to clear our doubts even if it means explaining again. He is also approachable and humorous in his lessons. His step-by-step approach breaks down complicated physics concepts, making it easier for me to comprehend and digest. The notes and answer keys he provided also aided in my learning greatly as they are concise and clear. Wanxi, RJC
Dear Mr Sim,
Thanks for the email! Just wanted to say thanks to you too for being such a dedicated physics/civics tutor and council teacher :) I believe the whole ccad can attest to your enthusiasm for all ccad-related stuff, and I think many of us in 6H (including myself) would be very very lost as to some of the physics topics are about if it werent for your notes and explanations in class. Yup thanks for not giving up on us (especially last year when we werent really doing our tutorials etc) and for always encouraging us to do our best for stuff :) Charlotte, RJC
Hello Mr Sim,
Long time no see! I went to your website and it looks great! You are a really dedicated teacher! Hope everything is doing great there! I miss RJ so much!
I dont know if you still remember me but I am really glad to be taught by you because you make physics "easy". Thanks for being a really dedicated teacher! I got an A in physics for my A levels (it was totally unexpected) . I believe that it is extremely crucial to practise and practise because there are really a lot of standard questions in the exams. Ya Ling, RJC
I was scoring consistently grades of below D, and did very badly in physics as i was unable to grasp the concepts of the chapters. However, things began to take a turn for the better when Mr Sim started teaching me. My grades jumped from Es and Ds to As and Bs! which is a drastic improvement for me. My understanding of the topics became very much clearer, and instead of just scoring in physics, I was able to understand physics better and embraced the subject. Mr Sim is a very responsible teacher, and even became a friend to me, even after my A levels. Dragg, CJC
The LPS is very useful as the lecture notes just has too many things and I get too stressed out about understanding and memorising everything. For the whole Physics 2 year syllabus the whole stack of my notes is <20 pages! It is efficient and very useful, the procedures apply to almost all the questions in the topic. Thank you Mr Sim! Joan, ACSI
I am Linlin. Hope that you are enjoying your teaching in RJC. I am currently in California Institute of Technology. I think I will either become a EE or MecE. I always enjoyed your teaching a lot. I wish I could be visit RJC again! Lin Lin, RJC
Hi Mr Sim!
This is Yunyan!(or Ms Sang???:)After a while it gets weird to call myself Ms Sang in front of you.But it's fond memory^_^) I'm writing to tell you that I have been accepted by Yale University. Thank you again for the one year of teaching, the recommendation letter that you wrote for me and all the help you have offered to me! I'm really grateful and hopefully I can come back to Singapore some time to thank you personally!:)Right now I'm in China enjoying the long holiday! Yunyan, RJC
This is kai chen from 2S03D. After looking at this site, i must say i am really filled with respect for u man. Not many people are so committed, to the extent of ddoing things the way u are doing now just for the benefit of the student body. You were great then, and u are even better now. =) so please continue to do your best k sir! Kai Chen, RJC
